this would be a big blow to those who sell metals, because it'll make avoiding a 3% paypal fee IMPOSSIBLE.

is there a better place to trade?

I don't know, if I was a seller, I'd want to avoid those disgusting fee's at all cost.

No fees yes, but Craigslist is broken down by city. So if you post something, it's only in your designated city on there so it limits your exposure.

To answer the original question, has anyone tried bulliondirect.com? They have a place called Nucleo Exchange that allows you to put up stuff for sale. The commission is 1% I believe so that's pretty reasonable. I have used it from the buying end and so far so good.

Mandatory Paypal fees friend and by the way, eBay owns Paypal.

If something sells for $0.01 to $25.00, EBay takes 8.75% of the final value/bid. When you factor in the listing fees, that comes pretty close to 10%. If you throw in Paypal, then you are getting into the 12-13% range. Ouch!

I was going to list some items on Ebay in hopes of getting under the wire for the mandatory PayPal payment system. No luck. They are requiring it now. So, guess what? The items that I plan to sell, that I have had for a few years and I can wait for a sale to happen on, I will list on CL and see what happens.

Gee, I put a want ad on CL for junk silver and it got flagged and removed. By the way, someone responded to it before the flagging with this inquiry:

quote:

I have a 1921 silver one dollar coin, a 1962 nickel, 1964 quarter, 1974 half dollar, three one dollar coins from 1979 and size quarter dollars (1776-1976) and a 1950 penny. how much would you pay for all of them?

I probably would not pay much more than $15 for all, based upon silver and face value composite.

I honestly do not know how to price a 1921 peace dollar. They can go for quite a bit I see on Ebay. If the seller contacts me again, I will suggest they take the coin to a dealer for an appraisal. Maybe the dealer will quote them a much higher price. Since I am interested in doing transactions in person, the seller could back out of a deal easily.
