I have been thinking about purchasing a wire stripping machine and was wondering if any of you guys have experience with these. I have searched Ebay, and they range from around $400-$40,000 depending on options and how industrial it is.
I was thinking this one would be a good starter. Any of you with knowledge/experience agree?

I've devised a plan to strip wires with copper in them by cutting a hole in the board, fitting the wire through and cutting it with a saw. Hard to explain, I'll try to draw up plans in Microsoft Paint and post it.

Well, I was cutting through jumper cable wires, and i've only done it once for like a an hour and a half and stripped 15 full jumper cable wires. (I was also doing other small projects - MultiTasking) I'm also assuming your wires are sort of thick also. If works comes to worse you can always make a fire and melt the plastic/rubber off.

Well thats cool. I did some calculations and I figured it would take approx. 300lbs in order to break even (thats at the $400 level). I dunno, I might do it I might not. Scrap is starting to drop and I feel I could use the money for other things... SOMEONE TALK ME INTO THIS, PLEASE

Thats an idea. If they had a nice electronic one I would consider that, but if its a basic hand crank type then your better off in the long run buying on.

I was an electrician at a saw mill for six years (the mill closed in 1989). We saved all our copper scrap and wire ends. When we had over a 55 gallon drum or various wire ends we'd make a fire from scrap wood, get a few cases of beer and burn it all for 4 or 5 hours Friday night or Saturday afternoon, poke and turn regularly. Sometimes it got hot enough we got a bit of a puddle, but we would put a fan on it as it was usually raining a bit. We dragged the resulting mass/wad around the parking for a few laps lot so you could actually see color in places. As long as it was burned real good, smashed up in a nice wad and there was no hint of plastic, it scrapped out as #1, but it was loaded with lots of other copper that looked a lot better.

That sounds like a bunch of fun and all but Id rather send the rubber to a landfill than burn it, even if its profitable.... I mean.. does burning rubber not make you think third world country wars or is it just me? Even if my state allowed me to burn like that I wouldn't.
Im still open to seeing some homemade wire strippers. Hey derrickvanderwall where is your drawings of your plan??!!??
