I was dumping $1000 in halves the other day and the terller asked if I had any old ones in there and I told her not a chance.
She then mentioned that she had a stash that she had been collecting and lamented that she did not know what to do with them. I told her I would buy them and that my kids would probably end up with them when I die. I gave her my card. Then I thought of the 5-6 other tellers that I see on a regular basis who collect and thought that I should approach them.
My guess is that I am way more informed than they are and should be able to be fair, but still come out ahead on the dael.
Has anyone ever done this?

I had a teller at my credit union where I dump do the same thing. It never panned out.
Speaking just for myself, in the past with similar situations when somebody knows you want to buy something they have, they start wanting to know why you want it, and then they think it must be really valuable. At that point they start getting unrealistic on price.

I say go for it. I traded with a teller before without a problem. Well, the only problem is that she doesn't work around here any more.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

Just because a person is a bank teller people think they don't know what is going on. Many tellers are pretty good scam artist in a way. A teller I know told me when they spot a person doing the change stuff at the bank, they pull the dumb act and tell them about a stash of coins they've been putting aside for a long time. Should get suspecious if the teller is only a little older than a teenager. It would end up a pile of standard coins that they could always say I thought those were rare. Many, many bank tellers have Fathers, brothers, aunts, uncles, etc that are into coins so they tell the teller what to look for. Anything rare or unusual is put aside for relatives, boy or girl friends, etc. Your chances of getting anything from a teller would depend on if you wanted to marry one. |

I think that my wife would finally put the breaks on my sorting if I tried this tactic. |
