New technology improves battery performance.

If this takes off, it could really drive up demand for silver.

If this gets used in the new plug in hybrids instead of lithium-ion batteries, then silver will go way up.

I came across an article about a week ago that said that the hybrid car manufactures would be running up against production limits of some rare earth metal that they use in their batteries. If these new silver/zinc batteries prove suitable for hybrid/electric cars...

If these PHEV cars take off and they use this battery. For example - 10 lbs silver per car * 10 million cars. 100 million pounds of silver or 1.2 billion ounces. That would skyrocket the price of silver. Silver is finding it's way into several newer green applications - like solar energy. Buy now.

Here is the article. The metal is called lanthanum. Decide for yourself.

Caution, tremendously boring read.

just another case of how hybrids rape the environment for no real benefit. Driving up prices of silver, aiding to inflation.
A lot of inflationary exist because of "environmentalists". Just think about it...
One thing I read in a book(written by a liberal) about how to save the environment by going green. He suggested that coal burning energy plants actually pay citizens for polluting... Where will the energy plant get this money? By jacking up prices!!! So in the end the consumer will loose money because the energy company has to make the same percentage of profit if not more...

While I'm all for saving mother earth, I dont think the right solution has been introduced yet, and I dont think we need to spend huge sums of money to try and solve global warming right now.
