A guy I know got a silver quarter in change at the local convenient store the other day. He then looked in the register and they had a whole roll of them. the trouble is that he only had $2.25 on him, so he only ended up with 9 of them. I gave him $2 each and told him to keep his eyes open for more. They included a 35,37, and 39.

This happened in a small town. Should I to go to the only bank in town and buy any rolls of qts that they will sell me?

If they are in the cash register in a roll, they came from that one bank. Maybe there are more rolls like that. I would go tell them you want to build a state quarter collection in a day, please let you buy every single roll you have, and promise to bring most of the quarters back in a couple hours. Who knows what you will find... Good luck!

I already cleaned them out of halves and I dump enough around town that I would probably just get my own back.

My primary dealer is next to a gas station. Since gas prices jumped to the $4 range, my dealer said that the gas station folks are bringing him a steady stream of silver dimes and quarters. The sheeple are truly emptying their old coin jars just to buy gas. Sad really....

If I am understanding this correctly, instead of walking next door and selling the Ag at a profit, then pay for the gas with said profits, they are just spending it at FV to pay for the gas?

If so, that truly is sad. I thought it was common knowledge that pre '65 U.S. coins had Ag in them.

Or is this a generational thing? The current young adult generation has no clue about anything and their parents didn't feel it was neccesary to pass along the knowledge...

Or have we become so lazy, over priviledged and over entitled that nobody wants to be bothered with taking the time to sell the coins at a dealer. Even at a profit.

Yes on the first question. I think these folks are simply uninformed. But who reads anymore? Most folks just watch TV with no original thought to stimulate the brain. And, the younger generation adds video games to that; they don't even get outside.

In regards to the roll of quarters, someone turned them in at FV to buy gas, cigs, bread, milk ...

I believe that it is not a guarantee that the older generation knows about the silver value. They may know it is silver, but most don't know what it is worth or where to sell it.

I cleaned the bank out of qtrs and didn't get any silver. A lot of the rolls were marked, so I have at least one other sorter in my small town of 2,000-3,000 people.

Or they imported the quarters from elsewhere. I also try to dump sorted coin out of town to reduce my chance of seeing it again, so it might be a drive by dump. Hard to find silver quarters in rolls. 1/2s are easier, then dimes.
