I recently inhereited a large coin collection, and among the things were 2 1882 and 1 1883 carson city morgan silver dollars UNCIRCULATED in some mint sealed boxes.

I was just wondering if anyone knew the approximate value of such coins?

They had just been sitting in my dads lock box for about 20 years along with about $1000 face in other silver coins.

Sounds like GSA boxes. They are between 140-200. 82 and 83 are very common

08 redbook values
82cc @ $225 in ms-60 to $500 in ms-65
83cc same.

Numismatic news monthly prices 220-525 same grades for the 82 and 215-465 on the 83

They are usually cheaper on ebay though.

I know about that 225 thing. I'm trying to figure out if red books and blue books have any relevance whatsoever, since there is so much divergence both up and down from what they say.

The red books are hit and miss. They are only published once a year and the prices are put in a while before they are released. Very hard to predict trends that far out. Your coin prices magazine are also really high on almost everything. But its all relative, coin prices are high for what I sell them for but compared to some ebay and main stream retail coin stores they are right in line. Your best bet is the red book for a general area and ebay for what it is currently selling for.
