Copper: unknown (have a huge bag full of wheats I've been adding to since I was little, recently started collecting regular copper pennies) Zinc: <$100 (just started collecting these recently) Silver: <$200 (most I've had since I was little, some coins recently purchased) Gold: $0 (too expensive & too late to invest at this point)

I am saving all three, copper, silver and gold.
Copper -- Currently less than $100, but I am working on that one bank box at a time (yielding between $4 and $5 a week. Silver -- Way more than $200. Gold -- More than $1,000.
I would be interested to know how people hold their silver and the strategy therefore. Dimes, quarters, halves, dollars, rounds, bars, etc. and why? Currently, I save silver dimes because I think they would trade easy in a SHTF situation.

I am buying silver as cheaply as I can purity wise and silver content wise(1 oz bars or silver dollars). If I have to trade my silver and I need a smaller quantity than 1 ounce I will do what the Spanish and the pirates did, I will cut the coin or bar in half or quarters. Pieces of 8 were acceptable by merchants long ago, cut up silver might be accepted by traders in the future. If not, then copper coins will be used.
I should have chosen "Cut-n-Paste" as a forum name, since that is what I do, mostly. |
