Hi all,

I'm a big guy myself and I can't believe everyone's just whipping around 70 POUND, 9500 PENNY BOXES left and right. I don't know where everyone lives where they can just effortlessly bound to the post office and flick away a charming little snippet of copper, but for me, sending pennies means standing in line with a grotesquely heavy box that's all slick and hard to get a hold of due to the copious amount to tape that you have to put on it to secure it, getting funny looks from post office staff, and worrying day and night about how the box is only one fall away from splitting open and spilling pennies all over the floor of the Post Office truck. Eeek.

THE MOST I will send at any one time is $50 Face, and even that is such a hideous chore that I'm glad I only do it once or twice a month. I shudder when I hear of people bickering about how many pennies they can fit in a post office box without it going over 70 lbs.

Seriously, does anyone else take note of how much a pain in the @$$ it is to ship pennies, or an I just a whiny wuss?

Wags.

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.

I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win.

I just make multiple trips from the car and buy my postage ahead of time online so I can walk around the line and sit the boxes on the desk for pre-paid postage items, no waiting in line and no strange looks (usually).

It ain't about size. Its about load management. I myself am 5'7-8" and about 145lbs, a far cry from big, but i throw it up on my shoulder and settle it. Then it's just a matter of balance till I get to the counter. Keep it centered over you hips to even the fatigue.

When I was growing up, it wasn't nothing to unload a semi trailer or two, sometimes 2-3 times a week. Just 2 of us young guys and we had to walk those 50lb bags 50-75 yards or so into the barn. You have one guy in the truck and he throws one on each shoulder so you can carry 2 and off you go, 100lbs of feed. Or pitch 70lb hay bales all day in the summer heat, up onto a hay wagon, often times over you head to the guy stacking them. Might be the reason you don't see gyms in the country.

Point is if you don't know how to handle the weight and size of an item, and try to just manhandle it, you make the task harder. Use leverage when possible, distribute the wight to you strongest point, your center. Use Load Bearing equipment, like your belt. Let an edge rest on your belt and the weight "hang" off it, and just hold it there. Distributes the load to your hips from you back and shoulders.

Or get a luggage piece with wheels and a collapsible handle like me!

I ship 2-5 priority flat rate boxes every week containing 1-3 boxes of pennies in each~! The old ladies at the counter call me the penny guy. I do insure every box for double face. I've sent out about 20 boxes ($25 each) in the last couple weeks, I did loose 1 of them. Pennies never turned up, but customer is being issued an insurance claim.

Pack the pennies into a flat rate box, not over 70 lbs, and schedule the post office to pick it up at your laction, no standing in line. You also get "free" delilvery confirmation when you print your own labels.

What, you thought this was easy?

I have been known to ship an occasional bag or 2. You can get 10,000 in there and come in just under the 70 pound limit. 9500 will be a few pounds lighter. If just doing a single box with 5000-10000 I just carry it in on my shoulder. Since I preprint my postal labels I walk right by the line and drop the package on the counter. If shipping a few boxes I use my MagnaCart which is rated for 150 pounds. For larger shipping days I use the bigger cart rated for 660 pounds.

The disadvantage of selling lots of pennies is.. you have to ship lots of pennies.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

Same here, our post Woman is a trooper as well. Last year we got her a gift certificate for a pedicure at a local salon. Worth every penny, she even rings the door bell if she thinks a heavy package is coins (instead of leaving it on the porch unattended). Its was worth every penny to buy her the pedicure, I would suggest it.
