I've been thinking about things that I can make out of pennies, but that wasn't one of them. Instead of spending, 200+ on one of those you could make something close with an old wood toilet seat, a router, and some of that liquid acrylic. The only hard part that I have found in similar projects is trying to get all the bubbles out before the stuff sets. I am not sure how to do that at home...

horgad,
I would think smoothing it out and shaping it like a toilet seat at home would be a little difficult too, but maybe not.

I was thinking more along the lines of leaving most of a wood toilet seat intact. Just hollow out a space on the top of the lid with a router, place pennies, and fill in with your favorite clear finish. I would not attempt to do the seat. It would not be as nice as the one shown, but it would probably only cost $20.

Do a search for table top epoxy. That is same stuff the use at restaurants to imbed ojects in tables and bars.

I wonder if eventually the epoxy would start to wear off and the pennies would start to fall out.. Like at a bar when the epoxy top coat has worn off and the wood is exposed.

I wish that I could find a picture to post here, but you can pour that table top epoxy on thick...like 1/2 inch or maybe more. Of course you have to have a form to hold it in so it doesn't run all over the place. Anyhow, it is really cool stuff and you can design your own bar, coffee table, etc and fill it full of coins, shells, bottle caps, pictures, postcards, or whatever and that stuff is never coming out.

I have a paper weight that I made from a butterfly (no I didn't kill it). The only problem was my lack of expertise and the resulting bubbles. I think I know what I did wrong, but I've been too busy with pennies to mess with the stuff again...

You must be logged in to see this link. but is this where the US dollar is going? With inflation, you may someday be cheaper to keep a stack of disposable US dollar bills beside the seat and achieve coordinated decorating perfection.

Nice toilet seat, but we'd rather make zinc dumps!
