OK I have done my first 8 boxes and I'm getting less than 12.5% copper. Most of the boxes were brinks, but $30 was CWR and another $30 or so was my accumulation of pocket change pennies.

The Brinks boxes came from a branch of a mega bank in the suburbs.

Should I try a different source bank or is this typical?

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

You may get different responses from different areas of the country, but that sounds unusually low to me for anywhere. I'd definitely try different banks. I've gotten a two or three boxes out of about 50 that were that low, and one that was solid 2007-P, but the others have run 20+% easily. I wish you luck.

Lemon, I have had lots of trouble with Brinks boxes and finding no copper at all. I would hit Bank of America and see what they have. Make sure to develop a relationship with your tellers and open an account. To keep from running all over town, ask them to order coin for you. Also, dump the coins at a different bank. If possible, find a bank that will accept bags of loose coins versus wasting your time rolling coins. Good Luck!

No no ... this is not typical ... try other banks ... that seems unusually low for anywhere. Maybe you have a fellow hoarder in your neighborhood - yikes - oh the horror.

yeah, I was afraid there might be another horder. Gotten some halves and was pretty much skunked. I was thinking that people are likely to dump at the mega banks and use the small banks as a supply.

Thanks for the feed back and encouragement. If I back out the CWR and Grandma's stash, I was probably getting only 10%! Either that, my 5 year old is pilfering me blind, lol.

Also, I'll try BofA and some others. I don't have an account with them but I may need to open one.

Did you just dump them into a Ryedale all at once, or do you have any kind of breakdown of your percentages by source? Just curious. More than 50% of my Brinks (plastic-rolled) boxes have been duds lately, and i never get more than 17-18% copper when they're not, so you're doing better than me.

Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead?

Hey, that is unusally low. My area averages about 40-50% constantly(In the US!).
Find a different source bank, or buy copper pennies from other hoarders. It's easy, and you don't have to do all your work that you are currently doing.

Just try more boxes. You may have had a bad batch...

Also, you may have had a bunch of new uncirculated pennies in there too which would lower your average.

I didn't keep stats until I was finished - weighed the sorted product. but I watched the machine so I know there was not a 100% zinc box.

Did you check the zunc pile for copper? Maybe your sensitivity is not set rught... Could really effect the percentages.
