I got a call from my credit union to pick up $100 in pennies today. She said she had 60 dollars in halves as well and asked if I wanted those as well. I said sure! First roll I open up is 100% silver!!! 19 40% and 1 90%. Another roll had 19 out of 20 coins that were silver. Out of 60 dollars I got 37 40% and 3 90% halves!!!!

Now that's the way to celebrate the 4th of July. Good for you.

You need to scrounge up more cash and go back! Congrats on your awesome find.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

At that time of night you shouldn't be online. The only two things worth doing at that time are sleeping and sorting copper.

Sweet! I dunno about the things to do at 12:30 though. That;s when the best old Sci-Fi movies are on!

Are you throwing that out?

Might want to re-visit and see if the customer who cashed in the halves brought in dimes or quarters never know what you might find. Congratulations on the find. Good relations with the tellers pay HUGE dividends. Don't forget to reward the teller it may pay off again in the future.

Teller at Credit Union had another $60 in halves today. Not as good as last time, but not bad. 4 -40% and 1-90% silver in 60 dollars.

I have had two more trips to the credit union where they have offered up halves. The first time she had 20 dollars worth and there were 4- 40% halves in the mix. Today I went there and the teller tells me that she had 20 dollars in halves but she thinks the other teller had already looked at them. I told her I would take them anyways. I go out to my car and look at them and see no silver. However the number of halves in my hand from the first roll looks like a lot. I count them out and I got 25 halves(12.5 dollars) included in each 10 dollar roll. So even with no silver, I came out ahead

coppernicus - I would suggest that you return the overage. You are doing fantastic on 1/2s from this credit union, and you don't want to hurt the relationship.

It is one thing to be out a few pennies or nickels one way or the other - no one cares much - but this is $2.50 a roll.

If they realize the mistake in the count at the end of the day and realize that you got the halfs (easy to figure out as you are likely the only 1/2 buyer in the day or maybe the week) you could easily cut yourself off from coins buying and selling there. If you return the $5 in halves they will trust you with coin deposits forever. Saves big time when the tellers just accept your coin roll deposits as correct. I think you will find the benefit outways small cost.

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” – George Bernard Shaw.

I will tell them. They get all of there coins rolled from customers. So the customer was only credited 10 dollars and I was only charged 10 dollars. I have never dumped any coins there. I actually get all of the pennies at three different branches of the credit union. Two are near work and one is near home. They all call me if they get an excess of pennies and I stop by each one at least once a week.

Yes, there are people other than you looking for $ilver halve$.
The "Numismatics" topic in the General Discussion forum has a pretty active topic "Half Dollars and other coins".
Lots of folks typing about the $ilver $anta or a $ilver $kunking over there.

There's profit if you melt things!!
