Last night while looking at the zinc box side on the rydale, one caught my eye that wasn't right. Turns out I found my first 1943 zincoln in pretty fair condition. Came from a C.U. localy. I pulled $100 from em, looks roughly 4-5% wheats so far. Roughly 25-28% Cu.

Thats one indian, one 1909, and one True Zincoln so far! C'mon S VDB!!

Congrats! However the cent you have isn't zinc, although it may look like it. It is actually made out of steel. The switch was made in order to save copper for amunitions during WWII. Great find nonetheless, I have still not found one in the years I have been sorting.

Centsearcher is correct. 1943 is the year you actually want to be copper. These are worth quite a lot of money. But I have heard of fake 1943 coppers too so be wary (changed 1948's or 1933's)
The 43's are steel and should stick to any magnet.

But still quite a nice find.

I search wheats, and I have found three fake 43 coppers.

Good find - I've found 2 of the 43 Wheats in Canadian penny sorting so far. They sure look neat.

I found a 1943 steel last week too. I had not got one from circulation since I was a kid, back at least 35 yrs ago, but I do not go thru all that many rolls from the bank, like many of you. I gave it to my youngest nephew telling him its a "good luck" penny. I think that its due to people cashing in their change jars for cash. I also found a couple of customer wrapped rolls from the bank that were mostly wheats last week which is fairly unusual as well.

Actually, you're both right- they were made from zinc-plated steel.

Congratulations! I have not found one sorting, but I did get one from a coin counter reject bin about a month ago.

I have found 4 Indian Heads but not a single steel 43 penny. I guess that's fine with me... I'd rather have the IH's. You can get a roll of steel circs for $10 roughly.

I've found at least 15-20 steel cents in my sorting. If anybody needs one, just PM me.
