I was just tinkering around with hypothetical zinc prices on Coinflation and thought I'd post this here for reference, in case any of us want to know the break-even price for zinc, which would be more than double its current price--it'd have to hit $1.763 per pound for zinc pennies to break even in terms of zinc melt value:
Assuming the copper price listed (minor effect on value). I understand zinc has been that high before (might be wrong). In Canada they switched between steel and zinc for pennies for years depending on metal prices - maybe still doing that now.
