Hoard,
You are psychic. My wife found the quarters, put them in zip lock bags, passed them out the the kids and went yard sailing.
I got another bag of qtrs and got skunked.
One of the bags of nickels has sprung a leak. Guess that I need to sort that one before the red squirrels carry them away.
Also, the woman must be getting wise. I haven't found a single wheat since the 43 steel pennies. I am still buying them from the bank regardless. Once I get some time I should have a huge pill of bags to sort. |

Darn... I read the earlier post and then hit the second page and went Darn!!!
It is all about financial education. I don't have kids just yet, but I got my wife sorting with me sometimes so she will not be spending anything she should not be spending at face.
She would always sit in the car and whine a little while I went to bank after bank. Didn't like the post office either much.
So I did some sales and trades to test the market and show her this was actually a paying hobby (she was not happy about the Ryedale and sorter/counter purchases at first). Seeing some silver coins for the baby education fund come in made her happy.
Today I built a spreadsheet of sales/trades to date and what we received. That really impressed her. Now she actually bought some coin last week at a bank, and then agreed to cross the border and mail some coin off today. Next I'm going to train her on ebay auctions for those real old pennies and nickels we are finding.
And when I do have our first kid, they will be learning ALL about investing - coins, real estate, stocks, education etc. etc. I watched my aunt and uncle raise thier kids and teach them pretty much nothing about money. The kids have little idea about thier parents assets, investments or income.
Today the kids are adults and one has a family but they are all money useless! The parents were good at making money from thier profession and investments, but if they pass that money on they will do more harm then good. Our family is sure not like that - and my own family is not going to follow that path. |

I have two girls 12 and 9. They both have their own collections. One has about 100 world coins, the younger has a collection of the new nickels. She'll tell anyone who'll listen about her Western Series. Also, my wife just got a new perspective on the hoard. We had a rather bad "Oops" with the checking account recently. So, to keep from getting a bunch of fees I pulled some silver and dollar coins and sent her on a selling run. Then I went over what I have stashed for us. I don't think I'll get any flak buying silver for awhile! |
Are you throwing that out? |
