I don't feel sorry for ya. Aren't you the young man who just bought a small dragon hoard of silver? |

Great find! I just got a call from one of my grandmother's friends. She has been saving pennies for about 30 years. I'm going to see them on Sunday and probably make a deal with her. |

I've been getting the same kind of deal from one of my banks. Unfortunately, I had to turn down several bags of Qtrs last week. I didn't have the funds. I am still working off the last 5K that I bought. I have found so far 12 silver dimes and 7 silver qtrs. I have not sorted many of the pennies yet. I have 6 bags of them and six bags of nickels stashed in the garage. Hope my wife doesn't find them. I sorted two bags of pennies ome was 58%, the other bag of pennies was around 30%, but had 43 steel wheats in it. |

Why parents who are coin collectors never tell their kids anything about coins, I do not know... My girlfriend's mom said that when her father past away the kids took his stash and went one for you, one for you and divided them out till they were gone. I took her a red book so she could look at it. I wonder how much of his hoard was traded in for face. What she was describing, sounded like he had bags of wheat pennies, steel pennies, all the way through to things like slabbed coins. (she said plastic holders with writing on them)
She said he would have probably traded a few of his kids for coins, but never talked about coins with the family. When I have kids, im going to atleast teach one of them about what I have when I'm on my deathbed.

Don't worry about her finding bags of pennies or nickels.. she isn't going to spend those. But if she finds those 5 bags of quarters you might be in trouble. My girlfriend saw those stacks of pennies I flash pictures of occasionally. She said "There must be a thousand dollars there!" |

My dad has a pretty massive coin collection, and thats why he taught me about coins. When he passes away, which won't be for a long time(I hope) i get to distribute the coins and bullion through out the relatives, I call all the trade dollars i love trade dollars |

My dad got me started in coin collecting when I was 6 years old. He wasn't a collector himself, but he got one of those Whitman thumbuster books for me with one hole for each year.. much easier than if you had to worry about mint marks. He poured out his Alhambra bottle of pennies and we went through them together.. plugging the holes. Even found a 1943 steel cent in there. On this father's day it is good to think back to times spent doing stuff together with your dad. Those are times I will always treasure. Thanks dad, for getting me started on a lifetime hobby and all the wonderful times we spent together. |

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6 ESV)
Good advice from the wisest man of all times!
I had my daughters sorting Canadian pennies with me yesterday--they enjoyed it more than I expected. Anyway, they will not be spending at face what I have collected so far.

Hi,
When I was a kid, we got the uncirculated sets. My younger brother tore a few of those open and spent them at face value and I got the blame.
I even heard about it last month, and this was at least THIRTY YEARS ago.
Thanks, Mark! :)
About ten years ago, a friend of mine worked at a convenience store. Every once in a while, he would call me and say to get down there to buy the coins that he got from some kid buying ice cream and whatnot with the coin collection. I never saw any of the kids, but my friend would egg them on to buy more - even going so far as to offering 'bonus' ice cream with their 'special' coins.
Of course, my friend was usually broke, so he would have to call me for the funds to buy those coins, and the extra ice cream and whatnot.
Good times... Good times...
