I carry my bags back into the bank! get some help. If the bank employees really like you, they will help too.
Dont worry after you have your ryedale, from lifting constantly, you will be in shape enough to carry those bags back. My largest dump at one time has been 21 bags. All of them were carried through the bank's double door security system. Every time the read light flashed because of the metal coins. |

I use a flat panel dolly. It is rated for 660 pounds. I just stack the bags up on it. The handle folds down for easy storage in the trunk. I use the same dolly to pick up my large orders. |

Or just buy gas with them like some people do. I can't even spend a few rolls are Sears for a gift card, but that is another problem. |

How many bricks of zincs does one of those cost, Hoard?

I'm not having to put $800 worth of gas in my car per week, but I'd definitely use all penny bricks to protest if I had to pay that much. |

Out of curiosity what Bank (just the name not the branch or location) did you find that will take that many bagged pennies and what rules did they impose? Are they making you count them? Did you buy your own counter or are you weighing them out? Do you have to buy bags and how much do the bags cost? Any details you can think of would be great. Inquiring minds want to know. |

I think I got the dolly with shipping for like 3 bricks. One of the better equipment investments I made. |

I've been bringing the 13.8 lb bags in 4 at a time from my car to right outside the bank vault door.
It's not a long walk, and I rarely dump more than $600 at a time, so that's only 6 trips out and back.
What's killing me is tonight moving some of my copper out of the closet and up into the attic.
This is WORK!
But it will clear out our bedroom closet of my bags and pails of pennies and make my wife much happier...
Until I start filling it up again!

WilliamC- I would move those pennies to the basement instead of the attic. No need having a ton of pennies falling through the ceiling! |

Horgad, At first they were buying my bags. But I dont want to look like a major cost to the bank, so I buy my bags, I even gave them like 50 just for letting me do this. The tellers trust me. At first I was weighing them and turning them in. They said that a "penny is a penny" to the bank, if it's short it is short. But I have a counter just to make sure, I dont want to look like a cost to the bank. I think the bags cost like 50cents apiece.
They look at me funny when I turn in less than 4 bags a week. |

I don't think they have them at Wally World. I remember looking there when I was trying to find one. Make sure you get one that has a flat platform. Regular dollies only work for smaller quantities. The flat platform dollies work much better. |

You have a point there.
I would love to put the pennies in the basement...but I don't have one.
I do have a carport room but it has a separate door from the rest of the house, and I have a shed but its not even attached to the house. So if I want to get them out of the way then the attic is the only space available. We put down some plywood when we moved in so it's good for some storage.
Although after I get the next 1,000 lbs up there that might be enough for the attic. I guess I'll have to start renting space to store them in. Even though I haven't met my 1st goal of 2,000 lbs, I'm already thinking ahead to the next ton....
Have any of you big-time sorters gotten to the point where you run out of room and actually rented a storage unit to store you pennies in yet? |

Just move everything out of the garage into the shed. Then store several tons in the garage.
If you get to the point where you are going to have to rent space to store it then it is time to sell a little off and convert it to silver or gold. |

Attics can be very sensitive to weight. Many times, they are built to support the roof and not much more. The triangle shape distributes the weight above to the outer walls, but the spans that make up the floor are not particular strong. If you have a load bearing wall (goes all the way down to a foundation), somewhere in the middle of the attic between the outer walls, that would be the place to put the pennies. Try not to put them in the middle of a span if possible.
Anyhow if you overload it, you should be able to figure it out long before it breaks. The boards will start to bow and you will get a dip in your ceiling and cracks. |
