From a couple coin dealers I've purchased beautiful 'uncirculated' ASE from the 'generic silver tray', BUT THESE had been PAINTED with Dale Earnhardt Jr, or George Bush, or a colorized walking liberty. So, nice silver, with a small premium.

I have about 20-25 of these colorized ASE's.

Since they are still backed by the faith and law of the US Government.... well, yeah, anyway they are and I have them ...even though they've been 'defaced'. And in bartering situations a little color won't matter.

I love my local coin store. I can walk in any day of the week and buy ASE's at $1 back of spot.

I havent heard of "$1 back of spot" but are you saying the dealer sells them for $1 under spot? That makes no sense whatsoever when the general consensus seems to be at spot or a small premium for ASE's.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

That's why I like him so much. I am going to stop today and pick a few up and they will be $16 to $16.50 each and that is for all dates except the 86, 96 and 08. And Silver rounds are generally a dollar cheaper.

Man, some of you guys are getting screaming good deals on this stuff.
If i could get ASEs at spot or close to it, i'd pick them up... oddball rounds from who-knows-where, nah. i'm no assayer.

Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead?

Try a search for "Ted Butler." He writes a lot about silver and why it is a great investment. He also talks about one of his mentors and his reasons why ASE's are superior.

Personally, I like the idea of diversifying and having some Eagles, and some lower premium stuff--but, there may be a time when the easy to identify Eagle (or Maple) is the thing to have for barter, etc.

One of the places to find consistently inexpensive Eagles is Casper's Coins. They're usually a dollar over spot or less.

Interestingly, when I checked the site today, I found this: Limited quantity due to the guys over at the kitco and gold is money forums.

Good site and thanks. I was previously unaware of Caspars.
