i had a feeling i'd gotten lucky when i saw some unusual Kraft-paper-brown wrappers in a stack of CWRs i got this morning...

Out of $35, $10 were stamped by a local convenience store that turns up regularly, so those will just be the normal 15% copper, 5% sticky/mangled mix.

So far i've opened a random sampling of 15 of the other rolls, and haven't gotten a single zinc. In fact, the newest coins i've hit so far are a half-dozen 1968s that look like they were just minted... The vast majority have been circulated wheats from 1940-1959. i'm up to a dozen steelies, mostly corroded, and slowly growing piles from the teens through the thirties. At this rate it's looking like i purchased the better part of a box of unsearched wheats at face.

i'm a little embarrassed that it took me almost 3 hours to think to drive back to the bank and see if they'd gotten any other coins with those... One teller identified them to the other as "those pennies that smelled funny". i wasn't THAT lucky, but i mentioned that if any more came in like that i'd be very happy to buy them....

The other people i know somehow fail to get excited by piles of old pennies, especially when they smell funny, so i had to share here

Happy weekend!

Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead?

I hit a box like that once. I went in expecting to get my normal Brinks boxes and the Brinks driver hadn't been there yet. The teller offered me a box of mismatched CWR. About 20 rolls were nearly all wheats.

Pennies that smelled funny...Id guess they came from a the home of a smoker. Doesnt take long at all for the rolls to take on a cigarette smell. Congrats on the nice haul of wheaties!

most of my CWR's smell like they came from a smoker's house.
