The Royal Mint site is so hard to navigate. I can't find anything on production numbers of Canadian gold maple leafs. Not even on a google. I'm interested in the 1999 1/10 oz gold with privy mark "20 years ans" . Do these have a collector premium? Can someone post a link with Maple Leaf production numbers? Many thanks.
My 2008 Coins of Canada by Haxby and Willey lists this info:
Maple Leaf $5 1/10 troy 710 (thousand). All 1999 Gold Maple Leafs have the privy mark "20 years/ans" within an oval
By comparision year/minted: 96=179 97=189 98=302 99=710 2000=53 2001=63 2002=45 2003=27 2004=33. Far more coins were minted in 1999 in all sizes then were minted in almost any previous year for each size.
Even more dramatically, the gold maple leaf minting really dropped off after 1999 on all sizes due to increased competition from other countries and falling demand for gold coins. For example you can see that the 1/10th coin the combined total minted for 2000-2004 is only 221,000 compared to 710,000 in 1999.
So likely no reason to pay any premium for any size 1999 - in fact they are very plentiful!
