No buying or sorting activity to report - I've switched jobs to capital recapture activities for now.
Spent a good part of the weekend wrapping coin (I was way behind!). Today I opened a new savings account with a new TD branch near my home. Had a nice chat with them about thier services, applied for a line of credit, and confirmed they never charge fees for deposits. They do charge businesses who pick up coin (but not to drop off).
Then I drove home and loaded up all my wrapped dump coin :) Headed directly over to the bigger TD branch with a "coin shortage" and deposited $1255 (including $1200 in nickels) into my brand new empty savings account. I even told them this was my good deed for the day to help them alliviate the coin shortage :)
That took a few minutes to say the least. The teller asked if I had told them I would be depositing so much coin when I opened the account and mentioned the "f" word, but I just smiled big and said I had discussed that there would be no fees for deposits ever. (bank policy is to never charge a fee for any deposit.
That branch made a lousy source branch anyway, but they have great extended hours, till 6 PM and even 8 PM some nights, so I'll be seeing a lot of them now. I still have hundreds in canadian steel and zinc pennies to roll and deposit later in the week.
In the spirit of international coin roll hunting, I'm heading south for Canada Day where I will dump most of a box of US zinc pennies, a couple rolls of US dimes pulled from penny and dime rolls, and all the halfs I bought before but have not managed to spend yet. I'll try and get some more halfs to sort, and maybe a few rolls of nickels. I get plenty of US pennies in Canada already. |

Sorted about 80 lbs of pennies overnight. About 47% mixed copper, 53% zinc/steel. Saw no wheats or kings and found only 1 lone 2000 UK Penny (but I think I prescreened this batch when I opened the rolls). Might handsort the copper for old coins later if I find time. Also ran about 80lbs of mixed zincs through which the Ryedale very nicely sorts the US Zinc from the Canadian Zinc, as long as I use a US zinc standard (will not work on Cdn Zink standard). Will cash in the US pennies in WA again for some greenbacks or 1/2s. |

| Sorted $150 pennies. Cu was down to about 35%. Not good - lots of 2007/2008s in these boxes. |

Remember, though, that probably half or more of his copper are 1982-1996, only weighing 2.5 grams. Not as good as the US 3.11 gram coppers. |

Sorted another $50 worth (two boxes) Cu about 45% again. Even the light 2.5 gram are worth 2X face in bullion value so I can't complain to much. Plus all the Canadian Cu is 98% pure, not 95% pure. I get a LOT of US Cu as well, but for now all the Cu goes in storage containers together.
Got an unexpected benefit of visiting so many banks so often. A TD branch I've been in twice so far just called to say I WON a new CAMCORDER. I don't have one of those either! Guess the $300 plus tax Sony digital handycam goes in the "profit" column on the coin hobby :) Yuppie!!! |

I've been a total slacker buying lately. Today went to a small town branch and asked for pennies and nickels. They were out of nickels but I scored 8 boxes of pennies, then traded a dump box for another box. All CWR with good copper that it may have taken years to build up in the vault.
Visited regular branch that orders for me - told that all boxes came in mint fresh so they didn't even call me. Got to love that kind of attention to the customer's needs :) |

| Sorted out about 80 lbs of coin. Still running 45% Cu which is good. Found some full plastic rolls of pure copper in the batch. Not sure if they were hoarded and dumped or maybe just collected years ago... but it was nice to find. |

Some times when I ask for pennies and nickels the teller will offer to unload some dimes. Since they are generally CWR, and you never want to tell a pretty lady no, I'll buy them.
39 Rolls Dimes (1950 coins) Yielded: 1832 Cdn Dimes Non-Silver 111 US Dimes (no silver, but around 50 cents exchange rate benefit) 5 UK 5 Pence various dates 1 1965 Cdn Dime and 1 1938 Cdn Dime - SILVER.
Total Profit: +/-$1.70 At about 0.1% silver in the dime population, this is no way to get rich quick. |

| I hand sorted about 200 dollars of US pennies today and found 20 King IV canadians. I usually see a lot of Canadian pennies being in Michigan but this was more kings than usual. I think I only had about 80 Kings total prior to this. |

| Wife is trying to complete her Canadian quarter collection. She bought quarters on her own, and would you believe she found an 80% Silver Quarter. Said it was silver before even looking at the date. |

| Ran into rolls with high King Content this AM. While they were mixed with new coins, up to 50% George Vi's. Then in one roll I found not one but TWO George V coins. My very first - a 1932 and a 1933 in nice condition. But there are no wild indians. |

Breaking rolls that have been sitting on the floor for a while I found a 1921 George V Canadian penny in pretty nice shape. I'm no grader, but I can't see any damage on the coin and some of the jewels in the band of the crown are still visable. Maybe a EF-40? Better then this coin You must be logged in to see this link.
My oldest Canadian coin found yet in sorting. Can't remember if I've found older wheats.
While I am sure this old George V has served his country well, he has now retired into my coin album. Huxby's Coins of Canada says there were only 8 million made in this second year of small cents and that they range from G-4 $0.50 to AU-50 $15.00.
