I've got the day off today and the wife/kids are out-of-town visiting her family, so decided to do drive buys up the road a ways from where I live, where there are more banks in a smaller area. New territory for me, and I also decided to specifically ask for customer wrapped rolls just to see if I can get more older pennies.

I only had $500 to spend, but it took me 5 hours and visiting nearly 20 banks to get this many pennies. The most I got at one bank was $80 which included my only $50 loose bag. The rest of the banks were between $5 and $40. Seems all of the banks ship their excess pennies out and don't store many in the vault.

I don't know about ya'll but I'm spoiled. I can get $500 ordered from my primary source bank and load them in my car in about 15 minutes. I'd like to think I'm getting better copper yield from the CWRs but I'm not sure the difference is that much.

From now on I think I'll stick with ordering. Maybe, if I take the time, I'll call around to some of the small rural banks throughout North Mississippi and see if one of them has several hundred dollars worth of customer pennies in the vault. But getting $20-$30 at a time is just a bit too tedious and takes too much time to do on a regular basis.

But for this weekend I've got $1,100 unsorted, and a bit of free time. Let's see how much I can get through!

Now I've just got to get my plastic coin bags delivered so I can dump lot's of zinc next week...

I noticed in my area that CWR and FWR percentages are nearly the same except for a few instances. I have noticed CWR have brought my percentages down rather than up in many cases. With Fed. rolls, I know they are for the most part consistant. So I primarily sort FWR, but also get CWR from time to time to cover all bases (and when I want a higher dime yield--cheap Walmart sorters).

Now if that money tree would start growing, I could get some more cents.

You're right about the dime yield, I've already found 7 or 8 and have only sorted $150 or so.

The old dirty dimes I can see confusing for pennies, but how do people mix up shiny new dimes for pennies?

The way those dimes end up in the rolls is those cheap home sorters folks use to roll their pennies. They regularly plunk dimes in the penny rolls.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.
