If you could buy stamped bars of pure copper at $20 a kilo plus shipping of $10 for up to 33 kilo total. Do you think it is worth it as an investment? What do you think the market will be if you tried to sell them? Send me an email on your response or post it here!

| Am I missing something? Why would anyone pay $20 + $10 shipping for $8.23 worth or copper unless they needed a paperweight. Investment wise, it's a huge loser. Plus, the purity is always is doubt. What's that old saying, "A fool and his money soon part." |

I would consider buying such a bar if I liked the looks of the bar. Would I buy it as an ivestment? No. I like the looks of copper. I buy copper chains to wear because I like them but I don't buy them as an investment.
Your theads on the subject have given me more respect for the nice artwork silver bars out there that often sell for closer to the price of spot. If copper bars were as popular as silver bars then I expect we would start to see similar copper bars for closer to spot too.

Guess I'm a fool, as I own several forms of this type of copper. Sure are nice to look at. Not bought as an investment. Bought because they look nice. I can think of much worse ways for this fool to spend his money....

| Interesting when it comes to talking about how we spend our money and what is an investment or what is just stuff we like. I know this might be a twisted way of thinking but have you ever thought about going into Wal Mart and seeing if you could buy something that would go up in value. Now-a-days that might be a can of oil or just food. But seriously are is there anything anymore that you can buy at retail that goes up in value if you just keep it versus just all be disposal? |

It depends on how much you pay for something retail but perhaps something like building materials such as copper wire or copper pipes for example. |

The vast majority of the stuff we buy down at the store loses most of its value the second we pay for it. It is used now right? Food might go up - but it also will go bad. And other then eat it later, how would you recover any value from it? I don't have anyone knocking at my door looking to buy a bag of rice for more than i paid for it last year.
About the only thing you can get at your typical store that might go up in value is the pennies and nickels they hand out in change. |

Copper Catcher’s quote

If you have a keen eye, a willingness to be a shrewd shopper and luck on your side, you might be able to buy household items that hold their value or go up in value over time. Near me there is a craft store that has a discount area in the back. I decided to see what was back there and I found copper hooks for sale. I bought all I could find and ended up breaking even. If copper goes up the hooks value goes up.
Consider the discount section of hardware stores (copper and brass hardware items that were discounted or discontinued) craft stores (discount/discontinued copper and brass hooks, candlesticks, pots, etc)
Items that go up in price after you buy them can be found, but you have to think like a merchant, buy low, sell high, sell at some future point in time to make your profits.

| I know a sharp eyed fellow who scored a gold necklace at Walmart. It was marked down twice and he got it for half of the melt value. |

I have quite a few of them. Odd probably, but I also have a lot of pennies which mainstream society probably thinks is odd....
