For those of you in the Toronto area, the TD Bank at the Danforth one block east of Coxwell (the actual street is Woodington--they have a small parking lot and street parking is available nearby) has a Coinstar machine. Best of all, it's free.
This bank used to be a good source of nickels. Unfortunately, a lot of customers now bring the coins to the Constar machine (that's a fortuitous spelling mistake). I asked the teller about it, and he said that Constar picks up the coins (no doubt sorting them first). The machine spits out a little slip, and you take it to the teller.
The teller seemed very proud of the machine, saying there were only ten like it in Canada (I assume he meant free). He asked me to spread the word, to encourage everyone I knew to go down to that branch and bring in their coins. Now I don't know most of you, and it is out of the way for you Americans, but for anyone in the Toronto area this is one place to drop off your coins without fear of the teller byatching at you. And they are asking for them!
Bring in your steel! Coinstar needs steel!

Boy that would save me a ton of time! Well except for the effort to drive there from BC. Maybe I can sort enough to make the trip worthwhile Finance my trip to see my sister with Nickel rolling time saved.
As for the TO people here - now you have no excuse. |

Just a bit far from Florida! (though a nickel sorting vacation would be cool!) |
Are you throwing that out? |

I'm tempted to drive out to Toronto to take advantage of that. Haven't been out there for years.
Start off at the HOF at Bay & Yonge, walk up Yonge Street until you get to the Church of Scientology building, cross the street, and by that time you're hungry, and there's Big Slice pizza. Have you had your Big Slice today?
Good times... Good times...

Great! Maybe I'll see you there sometime. I've gone through my backlog and only need to drop by once a week or so. |

Another TD branch in the Toronto area offering free coin sorting is on Royal York and Summitcrest (one block north of Eglinton), in Etobicoke. That's a little closer to you, legacypac. |

Ya that will save me some time mickeyman. Thanks. I opened a TD savings account - turns out they never charge anyone on any account for deposits - and they have extended hours - my favorate kind of dump bank.
On Coinstar.com you can locate thier machines. They have none at all in SW BC - only the NW Washington ones come up for me.
A search for Toronto at max 50 km showed these two (plus many grocery stores):
TD Canada Trust 5887 Main Street Stouffville, ON L4A 1N2, Canada 905-640-4000
TD Canada Trust 1684 Danforth Ave Toronto, ON M4C 1H6, Canada 416-466-2317

Thanks so much for the tip mickeyman. I spent ages trying to find info on the net on free coin sorting in toronto and nothing turned up. Do you have to have an account with TD to get cash for coins? I can usually get them to give me cash for (rolled) coins or cheques since I have a credit card with them but once in a while someone gives me a hard time. |

I have dumped my pennies at the Coinstar on Coxwell and Danforth, and was not asked for a bank card.

I wish they would test some machines here in BC. Coinstar does not even operate in BC. All rolled all the time! |
