I wear them until they get holes in them. And then I still wear them. I don't buy the cheap off brands that fall apart inb 1 month. I like Adidas, not too expensive and they seem to last. The soles in my good shoes I wear to work, have had the soles replaced 3 times.

My mother is a hoarder. She has stacks of cardboard boxes, knocked flat. She saves every bottle that resembles a mason jar, even though she hasn't canned anything since the 40s. She still has almost every butter tub she ever owned, and the lids too. She has cigar boxes made in the 30s filled with odds and ends that haven't been used since the 30s. (Such as leather working tools hand made by my brother when he was in grade school. He's 78 now.) She still has the centennial edition of the local newspaper, dated 1955. She has bags of bags. Plastic grocery bags, that is. She occasionally gives those to Goodwill. She saves newspapers so my sister can give them to some charity drive. She still has all the kitchen utensils she brought here in 1948. She doesn't use them, but she still has them. She won't let me throw away food. I make biscuits that look like hockey pucks and she insists she will put gravy on them and eat them. After a couple of weeks they are still in the fridge so I smuggle them into the Kurbie. She has every Christmas gift her kids ever gave her, in a nice display cabinet, and she can recite dates and names for each one. She used to hoard silver quarters, but I don't know what happened to her collection. It's probably in some dusty box someplace.

A penny sorted is a penny earned!

This seems to be somewhat common among people who remember the Great Depression... my grandmother doesn't hoard to the same extent, but some things (like toilet paper and canned goods) she has survivalist-level stockpiles of, and she hates to see things go to waste.

Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead?

Back to shoes. I buy one pair of black fake leather shoes every 6 months from either payless or walmart. $19.99 they always have the same style in size 13. I've tried Doc Martins and something else that I can't remember that was made out of real leather. $139.99, after 2 months they were shot. At least with the payless get less pleather shoes I buy I get 6 months for 1/7 the cost. I have to carry a lot of weight and bend a lot, so the shoes always end up cracked and start falling off my feet after 6 months or so. I always own 2 pair of shoes, the pleathers mentioned above, and 1 pair of sandles for summer. In northern MN that equivilent is about 3 months. I've had the same pair of sandles for 3 years and the look the same as the day I bought them new.

The female hoarders are out there, but most keep a lower profile than the guys.

By the way, nice shoes, Ant.
