The local school is doing a penny drive. I would like to approach them and ask to buy the pennies. It would be great to find a way to get them to sell them to me loose. Any suggestions on how to do it? Would I have to get them a counter?

Also, the local bank told me they have a customer with a large number of pennies that were her fathers. She has been "washing them" and then bringing them into the coin counter at the bank. I would love to give my number to the bank and have them give it to her. How would you go about buying such a collection? It has crossed my mind that the woman is a local hoarder and she told the bank the story as an explaination of why she has so many pennies. I pick up my first bag from the bank on Friday and should know them if it is all zinc.

get a counter!
Go to the school and offer to count their pennies for 5%. Coinstar charges 7%, and you will come to them to count the pennies.

I'd tell the bank to give her my number. Then go count them for her and pay her.

Washing them?

"Rich," the Old Man said dreamily, "is not baying after what you can't have. Rich is having the time to do what you want to do. Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

O.k. I will get a counter.

I will do it for free. It wouldn't be right to charge them a fee.

As far as washing them? I wondered about that as well. However, we know that people do seemingly strange things. Look at us hoarders.

Yes, try and get in touch with her. Offer to pay her face value, but let her know it will save her having to carry them in and washing them. (both a lot of work)

If she refuses just tell the bank you will buy all she brings in. Either way you get the coins.

Regarding the penny drive, definately get a counter. A good one that is accurate and does not jam is not cheap. Try ebay. Don't get one that also puts 50 in a coin wrapper. All those wrappers will kill all profit. Find a good bank that will accept coin in $50 bags. Have the bank donate the bags.

Right now ebay has a MACH 6 BRANDT Coin Counter for $3000 or you can find others for around $200

I also am on the look out for penny drives. I have a Klopp counter I can take to the school or where ever the drive is. So I can accurately count the pennies into $50.00 bags, and it will be a lot easier for the teacher or who ever is in charge of the drive to take $100.00 bills to the bank instead of all those pails of pennies. Of course I will be generous and offer this service for free.

COPPER - the "poormans" precious metal!!!

SELLING - $100.00 face copper shipped to you for $189.00 machine rolled or bagged - PM me if your interested.

At the risk if asking the same question the over and over:

What is a good sorter that will bag them for me as opposed to wrap them? I can probably spend $200.
