Newbs first post. Thank you moderators for the great site!!!
I have been sorting my pennys by hand. While sorting I have noticed several nice and shiny 60's 70's and 80's coins. Does anyone toss these coins aside?
Would they be worth anything on ebay? I thought about putting a lot of them on ebay to see if they would bring some bidding. Seem like I could advertise "nice shiny set of 1968-2007 set of pennys" or something like that. I have some really nice 30 or 40 year old coins after just searching 3 boxes.
Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum. I too sort by hand and come across about 2-4 "shiners" per roll. I do toss the copper shinny ones into a separate container. I think if/when I sell some to deversify or for profit those will be the ones I keep. As for ebay.....people will buy just about anything. |

| I set any aside that I feel are AU55/AU59 or better. Lately, I have been considering stashing most S mints as well. There rare here on the East Coast - 3% roughly. What's the percentage on the West Coast overall I wonder? |

| i used to collect coins when i was younger, and copper hoarding has given me the bug again, so i've been putting aside anything near-uncirculated just to get a set. |
Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead? |

| I also have two Whitman albums for 1909-1940 that I've been filling up. I have so many wheats, I haven't gotten to the newer Whitman albums for 1941 to the present. |

3% is actually pretty good for your area. I thought it was .5 to 1%. It is around 7% of the total copper right here by the SF mint. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

| I just pulled 3 rolls from the bank and every one had pre 75 pennies with 6 wheats, oldest was 1919.It also produced 20 59-61 coins that looked uncirculated, they were awesome.I bagged em seperately cause they were to good for the bucket. |

| In GA, the 'S' percentage is close to 1%. I have been setting aside nearly circulated and 'S' mints for a couple of months now. If you are looking to make a bag of 'S' mint, I'd suggest moving to CA for a year or two. I don't even have $5 worth yet. |

Are the S's worth something?
I have found a few nice shiny 1964's lately. Its fun to find nice shiny old ones. I imagine they sat somewhere for a really really long time!

I have a full 1941-1074 Whitman cent folder. Whenever I come across a nice shiny copper, I check its date in the folder and if the coin I found is an upgrade I swap it. I almost have a complete set of BU early memorials already.
As for S-mints, here in michigan the ratio is very low, probably around 1% of the total coppers in each box. I saved them seperately for a while but recently I've just been sticking them in with the rest of my copper hoard. I figure the copper value far outweighs the numismatic value at this point. |

I have been setting my S's aside for the time being. I have been getting about 3-4 per box. With the exception of a '50 I found last week they have all been '68-'74, some of them clean and shiney.
