Hi everyone,
I just got in a load of computer peripherals. A lot of them have an AC adaptor...I figure the cord I can scrap for copper but is the actual adaptor worth anything?
Thanks! Tom

| Hi Tyoon, how big are the adaptors? They should have a small transformer in them. They're a pain in the butt go get out, but they're worth something. Just recently here, they're starting to take stuff like adaptors as they are, they are calling them misc. elec scrap, paying about .08/lb. Either way, they have copper in them, so they're definitely worth something. |

Hi SubSailor,
The adaptors are about 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches. I got them from peripherals like zip drives, modems, a few answering machines, etc...
Any suggestions on how to get the transformer out?
Thanks again! Tom |

Hi Tom
I was hoping they would be the bigger kind, with screws to remove. But in this case, I guess the best way would be to "bust" them out with a hammer. It's not easy, but it's the only way I know how. Again though, you might want to see what they're worth in the condition they're already in. |

| Thanks for the info. I just came into a bunch of adapters and was trying to figure out what the heck to do with them. So I tried the hammer method, and lo and behold, they came apart quite nicely. |

| Burn them. Not the plastic, only the transformer. Cut the copper windings off. It's a mess, and there isn't very much copper in them. |

| I wouldn't burn them. I'd just turn them in like they are. Like Saul said, there's not much copper in them, so you might as well get paid for all the weight in them. Besides, you'd save alot of time by not having to deal with burning them, the mess, etc. Save your time for the more vaulable stuff. My opinion anyway. Let me know how many you had, what they weighed, and what you got paid if you don't mind. |

| I've started just throwing the smaller ones in a 5 gallon bucket. When it gets full, I'll take it in and see what I get. To open adapters a few well placed hits with the claw end of a framing hammer does the trick. |
Are you throwing that out? |

| Fl, same here. I just throw them in a bucket with the bigger ones (microwaves, etc) and take them in when I have 20 pounds or so. |
