I have collected a small pile of circuit boards. Is anyone scrapping them ? How are they processed before going to the yard or buyer? I do remove the fingers and pins...Thanks Rick

Hi Rick,
Kind of depends on where you got the boards from and what's left on them. Computer boards sell pretty well on Ebay for their IC chips and gold fingers. I try to sell about 7-10 pounds of populated boards at a time and try to fit them in a flat rate priority mail box.
Some guys will buy populated boards but you have to have quite a bit to sell for any profit. Last guy I spoke too said he wants no less than 100 pounds and even then the reimbursement rate was pathetic.
Stripped boards are a different story. There are some scrappers that will take them but not sure what they pay.
Don't forget on the boards to grab the CPU and aluminum heat sink. Old CPU's sell for a good amount on Ebay.
Good luck! Tom

My buyer buys computer circuit boards, I think for about 50 cents a pound. They used to buy others (from radios, microwaves, tv's, etc) but not anymore. I've never really looked into sellilng them on ebay, partly because I don't get that many. I do have a couple pounds now though. I'll just throw them in with the rest of the load next time I go in.

Thanks in advance for any info. I pull the heat sinks also, but just leave the cpu's in place. |

Yea, make sure you grab the CPU's. Some of the old pentium pro processors sell for quite a bit on Ebay. Gold scrappers love them.
Generally what I do is sell processors in two batches. The heavy ceramic ones go in one pile and the cheaper plastic ones go in another. People pay really good money for the ceramic ones if they are separated.
Also, if you get some really old boards, some of the CPU's are considered to be "collectors items". There is a website somewhere that lists them....i'll see if I can find them.

Wow, that's a pretty good price, as far as I'm concerned. He probably has a minimum though?

I talked to a scrap dealer yesterday that will buy computer circuit boards. He didnt give me a price but said he wanted to see them to make sure he wants them. I suppose he wants the parts that I am removing (pins and fingers, cpus ) left in them. He is close to 50 miles away so I`ll wait to get more of them and possibly find another buyer who is closer...Rick

I sell junk circuit boards locally for .03 for low grade scrap. These include boards from vcr's, power supplies in computers, the part of a cd rom drive that has the laser, etc. Anything with a lot of plastic and capacitors.
Also from the computer tower my local scrap yard pays:
Steel cases with fans & some plastic: 3 cents a pound Aluminum cases (hard drive taken apart, older floppy drives) & heat sinks: 50 cents a pound Copper low grade internal cables: 30 cents a pound
The other parts of the computer I sell to an outfit in PA. He doesn’t pay shipping and is a little slow to pay, but as long as you email him reminding him he gets the check out eventually:
Motherboards no processor, PC Cards, boards from the back of hard drives, cd rom drives, and floppy I get $1.50.
They also pay $60-$80 per pound for processors, $5.00 a pound for memory, $5.00 a pound for loose ICS, $30 a pound for loose gold pins.
I guess some of the better states have plastic recycling so you can sell the oil based plastic for 3-15 cents a pound if it is sorted.
I usually average getting $6.00 to $7.00 a tower for the individually scrap prices after my fees. It’s not great but it’s easy to get a stack of unwanted towers from a school / hospital / business that is used to paying 50 cents a pound to dispose of such items.

clwp.....the person is Barry House out of PA. He answers emails fairly quickly. Like I said, a little slow to pay but if you remind him he gets the job done. You can email him at: barry.house@verizon.net . Just tell him you have some scrap boards, memory, processors to sell and leave a phone number for him to call you. Once he calls you he will give you the prices he currently pays. You will need to ship to him, get delivery confirmation. Include a packing slip and keep track of the tracking number.
