Hey Guys, I would like to share a story. About a month ago I started hoarding pennies. I got my first box and started looking into it only to find Zinc Pennies, Copper Pennies and Wheat Pennies. It was an all day event, but I finished with over $5-$7 dollars worth of Copper Pennies. Well, today I went back to the bank and got $25 worth and started to look though them. I found one roll that had nothing but Copper. I was very happy only to find out that all of the pennies I've search before had been in this box. So, I was wondering why did I find nothing but copper in one roll and zinc in all the others. So I started to mark the ones I looked though and called the bank, told them I'm on my way to get more. I just felt like Abe was telling me don't give up. I asked the teller if I may get another box. After about ten minutes of going back and forth with her she said okay. I looked though the box on my way home, just to check if maybe she had put the ones I checked into the same box, but she didn't. So I got home opened the box and I found Gold nothing but Copper Pennies and a whole lot of Wheat Pennies. I HIT JACKPOT!!! Please if you have any cool stories can you share with all of us? It helps to know that there is still treasure still out there for us to find! Thanks Copper Heads!

Well, not gold but for pennies the next best thing!
All you guys who are finding Inidan Heads and >30% are making me jealous.
I'm lucky to be getting 20% copper, and there are no Indian Heads in any of the thousands of dollars I've sorted so far.
I have found three steel wheats and a 1909 vdb though, so not all is lost.
Still waiting for the 1909 vdb to grow an "s" on it :) |

congrats. Are those the only boxes the bank had? I'd get back there!
You could weigh the boxes first just to get an idea how full they are. |

Are you dumping your zincs at the same bank you're picking up new boxes to sort? That's a sure way to make them dislike you. |

Welcome to the forum!
yeah you should have a primary supply and primary dump bank. If I returned pennies to a teller I had just gotten some from......she might jump across the counter...in a bad way.

Thanks for the advice! Well she made a deal with me, she said if I returned my pennies she would give me more and that is how I hit big. She did also say if I turned in more then 20 rolls its a $2.00 fee. The oldest coin found was 1919 and 1913 or 1914. I came out with 5 rolls of wheat. I think it belong to a old man that died in 1997 because that was the only early coins I found. Man, I bet he was rolling in his coffin when he found out his kids turned in his collection. I hope thats not what happen but we will never know! O sorry about finding Gold, to me this is poor mans Gold... |

I can't believe a bank wants to charge money for taking money for deposit.
What is the world coming to?
Find another bank that will take bagged coins. In my area Bankcorp South is pretty good about it. |

Yeah what next...will they start charging you to make FRN deposits over a certain amount?
Along those lines, I have heard of people being turned down for opening basic savings (yes savings, not checking or anything else) accounts because they have bad credit. For the life of me, I cant figure that one out. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

I had a bank tell me it would cost me $.55 to buy rolls of pennies. I went to the bank next door and got a roll of halves and found 17-64 kennedies.
Also, I have one bank that begged me to bring the zinc back. She was short on pennies and wasn't going to refuse to sell them to me, but she asked me to bring them back when I was done sorting. That is the bank where I found my first indian. I took back the sorted pennies (and then some). She was really happy and so was I. |
