Indian head. I have found 4 steel pennies so far, only in CWR's. I think brinks might sort out anything steel because I havent found any canadian steel in a brinks roll yet. I have yet to find an IH. |

I sure wish I could find some silver dimes in penny rolls. I've only found cupro-nickel ones :(.
Topeka when did you start sorting? I only have 1k sorted and I started coming up on 4 weeks ago. Of course do to problems with brinks. Every bank in my area told me that brinks couldnt fill their orders for a couple weeks. I would never have thought the couple grand in unsorted pennies I had would have created brinks shortages! Atleast im still getting 25% copper. |

Oh, clad dime are easy.. I get lots of those. I got 2 solid rolls of them a while back wrapped in penny papers. I think I have actually found more Indians than steels. |

Ive been sorting for three months. So far I haven't kept good track of the amt sorted, but I believe it to be between $1000-2000. Certainly no more than 2000. I have found two indians and one steel. The second indian and the steel were just this week.
It seems like every dime is find is a 65. So close yet so far from being silver. |

I am way behind you guys on both coins. After today I will be right near one million coins sorted since the middle of January. I have only found 3 Indians and NO steels in one million coins. But the good news is my copper percentage is still running between 30 and 35 percent and has not fallen off yet. |

I haven't found either yet. I've sorted low quantities ($1 to $5 at a time) for about a year, but I just started getting more serious about it around a month ago. In fact I just picked up my first %25 box yesterday. Maybe Beginners luck? |
Are you throwing that out? |

Someone who I shared my coin sorting with has found a steel penny after sorting a few thousand. |

I've found quite a few steel pennies, even a few really nice ones. Still no Indians....

I've found one of each, but the steel was from my friends pocket change as opposed to the indian, which was from a sorted box. I still count that as one for one in my book. |

I have found 5 Indians and 8-10 Steel. (all but 1 are in bad shape... but steel still holds up better than Zink)
I think I get more steel because I only sort customer return bags and I would guess that Brinks has some sort of magnetic sorter to pull out steel washers Etc. and would also extract the steel pennies.

None of each here, but I have only done 67K pennies so far hand sorted but this is a good topic and good to see the variety of answers. Hopefully I get one or the other soon. |

Approaching 500,000 pennies sorted here - I have found 1- 1901 IH and not a single steel. I have filled up a Whitman album 1909-40 about 1/3rd of the way. Found: 09,10,11,12,12D,14,17,19,20,21,24, etc... |

I've only been sorting for about three months, and typically do $10 to $20 a week by hand.
So far I haven't found any Indian Head Cents, but have found one WWII Steel Cent. |

I just finished sorting this week's penny rolls. Found two clad dimes in one of the rolls. First time that's happened.
Off to the bank for more tomorrow. |

I did get an Indian head penny that had a groccer's name on it. Its from 1863, its in really poor shape, but most of the information is readable.
I'm approaching 400k sorted. I'm trying to catchup to HCBT! I spent this entire weekend working on my Honda 600, so I didnt get any sorted. I guess I cant catchup that way :(. I need to get penny sorting slaves!!! |

It just goes to show that when you try to compare low probability events like finding an IH versus finding a steely that results will vary greatly unless HUGE sample sizes are used. As for myself, I don't have an exact count handy but I am pretty sure that for me it is close to 1 to 1 with maybe IHs slightly ahead. |
