This price just seems way, way too low...anyone else have any experience with this sort of thing?

Never seen a good deal on gold flakes. Must be the absolute worse way to purchase gold....In the famous words on Nancy Reagan, "Just say no." Just how I feel.

Deal

p.s. Odd how they are in CA supposedly, but demand payment in pounds....huh.

There was a guy selling brass flakes sealed up as gold on Ebay last year. I would be careful.

I would rather have an old scrap 14K ring than gold in the form of flakes or dust.

I received some gold flake for free when I won an auction on eBay. I promptly posted the same question that you did on an eBay forum. A knowledgeable old-timer with great feedback described the process: They take about one ounce of gold, and then they hammer/press it out so that it could cover more than an acre in area. The flakes are worthless unless you have mass quantities that you can press together to get some mass back.

Stay away from the flakes. I have a vial I got for free, but that's about all it's worth. :P

I bought some to see what it is. It's mostly copper. Not only that, but the guy only shipped 2/3 of what he offered!

I got some free from a coin I won. Done an acid test on it, came out to be alum foil.

I think almost all of the gold flake Ebay deals are phony imitation gold.
In the last year, I have only seen one or two that were the real deal.
To weed them out, look at the description. If they say that they are
real genuine gold or, if they say they are some specific karat, such
as 22K, 23K, or 24K, they probably are genuine gold. In the Ebay link
given on this thread, there is no mention of these things. They do
use the words, "Gold Leaf." I think that this could be fraud.

Check out this deal, Ebay # 230254853674 The seller calls it Gold Leaf.
Notice, in the photo, that he had used a marker to mark out the label on the box.
Here's the same item

Note the label: Imitation Gold Schabin. Con. Con. Con

I just now looked over the approx. 200 ads on Ebay for "gold leaf flake". That's what
they all called it. I only found ONE that I believe to be real
gold. I believe that all the rest are phony imitation gold. I hate to
see people get taken. What do you think? Is it fraud to call imitation
gold, "gold leaf"? I have used real gold leaf on carved signs for many years.
Most manufacturers make both real gold leaf and imitation gold life.
When they use only the term, "golf leaf", they always mean the real thing.
