Banks are very reluctant to give me boxes of pennies...I usually can only get $10 at a time.
Should I open a business acct? How do they work? How much do they cost?

Try different banks. A customer account should be fine....I don't think you want any tax or other regulatory problems of opening a business account if you don't own a business..... Plus, then they WILL CHARGE YOU FOR YOUR COIN ORDERS!! |

I agree with wolvesdad, just try a different bank there is one on every corner. Some will require that you open an account, but that is no big deal just open an account and put a hundred dollars in it. Once you have an account most banks do not have a problem ordering you coins. Be honest with them right up front before you open the account, tell them that you will be ordering large amounts of pennies each week. Then they just add it to their coin order for the following week. As long as you are dealing with a bank that is big enough to get a weekly coin order. If they do not order every week so that your order would be more of a special order then there may be a fee involved. Its just that you have to wait a week to get your coins. I order from several banks and I don't have any problems. Another advantage to having several accounts is that you can skip a week with your orders, you can order every other week instead of each week. The same goes for getting rid of your zincers, it is good not to bring too many in too often. |

If you have a bank you reagular do biz with, go to the main branch, ask the teller for a few rolls after you make a deposit, if there is branch sites, use them to do the same, on trips, ask for 3$ in pennys, you will find more copper in rual areas. Good hunting |

You need an account, and then you should be able to place orders for boxes of pennies. Tell the bank up front that you are a penny collector and search through a lot of pennies or something. If they balk, move on. It's usually a good idea to dump pennies and buy pennies at different banks, or at least different branches. There is usually no cost for ordering the boxes. Just the $25 cost of the box.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

Just the other day (thursday I think) I walked into a bank (not a member) and asked to buy $10 worth of pennies. The teller said "ok..." as she went to open the box I said "oh can I buy the box since you have one?" she then said "sure" One just has to find the right bank. As for ordering boxes....that can be another thing altogether. |

It might only be the teller. Some tellers make up arbitrary rules and others don't. It might also depend on whether they have coins, or whether the manager has been fussing at the people, or a dozen other things. Just try another bank, or the same bank another day. If all else fails, open a checking account. You can cut through all the baloney if you have an account. |
