Try asking several dealers.. not just the ones that have it out in the case. It's possible that you may find a dealer in the current economy that is a more motivated seller.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

I paid 11.7x Face today. All Walkers in decent shape from the 30s and 40s. Seemed like a decent deal.

Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply.

Did you get that at a local show? That's pretty decent price you picked them up for.

Just click a state near you.

As for security... I went to a show once and saw a guy's stuff get stolen. The article was on coinflation.com.

Ok I went to the show today and picked up some junk silver coins. I picked up some stuff from the bargain bin where I was able to get silver at 12x face. I didnt see much else, but one guy had a bag of quarters in his case. I asked him what the story was since I couldnt make out the marker writing on the bag. He said he would either sell the whole bag (about $40 face) or I could pick and choose at 12x face. I asked if he had halves (slightly higher silver content due to less circulation) and he had a bag of over 350. I picked out 20 pieces and paid him. I wish I would have brought more money so that I could have bought the whole bag off of him. Overall though, the show was not as busy as it has been in the past, and it wasnt a full dealer bourse either. I attribute it partially to being the beginning of summer, partially to the 80-degree weather we had today, and partially to the economy (of course smart people like us are buying silver and coinage).

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

Hi,

Gosh, I must be spoiled here in Washington State regarding PM purchases.

There's no sales tax on PM, and the buy/sell spreads on regular stuff is quite competitive.

And if I don't like what I see here in the Seattle area, I can always go down to Portland to Affordable Jewelry and Precious Metals (ajpm.com) and I've been using them guys for years with NO problems whatsoever.

The coin stores in Tacoma aren't very good. I tell people that I will generally beat their sell price, and I will hand deliver what they want.

I was surprised to see the lack of quality of coin stores when I was down in Las Vegas a few months ago. First, they have sales tax on bullion, which makes no sense, because Nevada is the Silver State.

So junk silver makes no sense to purchase down there.

And on Gold Eagles, they were charging $50 over spot plus tax! Where do I sign up?

About the only thing I can see me going to a coin show for is to find a specific coin for a collection. Junk silver doesn't fit in...

I'm sure of one thing, nobody would be able to take out 20 or 30 people, they'd look like they've been run through a garbage disposal after the first (surprise) victim.

Bought two war nickels for $1 each, and a silver 1960 Venezuelan 50 centavo coin for 10 cents.

Turned down the most overpriced Indian Head cents I've ever seen. Dealer was asking $1 each for some of the worst grade Indians... dented, pitted, worn out. I told him I could get better quality Indians from a different dealer's booth 20 yards away for only 35cents each. "If it's a better deal, than go there," he replied. I can't fault him for that perspective, but he's never going to move those coins for that price. Does he still consider himself a capitalist?

Picked up a handful of halves at the coin shop for 11.65x face today. Sadly, I had to pass on a bunch because I didnt bring enough cash.
