I've also used You must be logged in to see this link.
On a couple of items I compared (coin cartridges and plastic coin bags) they were cheaper than banksupplies.com.
For long term storage of the copper the canvass bags are probably good, but I'm going to use old cat litter pails since I have lot's of them and they are free.
I won't start rolling copper until I'm ready to sell some, which may be soon! |

I roll all my pennies as I go on, usually do $5 sorting, $5 rolling. |

I use baseball card storage boxes that are available at your local sportscard store. There are different sized boxes but the two I find the most useful are the 660-count and 800-count card boxes. The 660 box holds 2000 pennies nicely, while the 800 box holds 2500 nicely. The boxes are sturdy and stack nicely so that's why I use them vs bags. |

i hand sort and hand roll the cents back into the $25 box. that way i can make my penny books, check for errors, and pull out the indian heads i can not find. it also keeps me occupied and stores a little neater. |

I bulk sort and pull out the Indian heads when I can find them. I get the heavy duty plastic transfer bags for free from my bank too, but I usually just use them to return zinc or for shipments of copper.
For storage I use a combination of very large tubs, kitty litter buckets, cloth bank bags, ammo cans and also the $25 bank boxes after rolling them up with the automatic wrapping machines. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Speaking of Indian heads....how often do you guys come across these? I have only gone through 11 boxes plus 20 rolls so I dont expect to find out from such small numbers. But I am curious how long it took some of you to find your first one. |

I think the average reported by most guys here is 1 per 100,000 coins sorted.. but you never know when you might find one. I found 9 last year and 6 so far this year. |

Good info...I'll just have to keep at it. I have 2 boxes to pick up today or tomorrow and 5 more on Friday. Maybe I will get lucky from that batch of 17500 coins! I really dont know how I would react if I found one. |

The first one is the best.. it is a real rush. Heck, it is still a rush every time I find one now. PM me your address and I will send you out one so you will know what they look like when you come across one. Once you get the first one under your belt the rest come easier. Be sure to manually check your zinc reject pile for them.. I have seen them sneak through both a copper keep and a zinc resort to end up in the pile that you are about to return to the bank. |

I appreciate the offer but I was already a coin collector before starting to hoard the copper cents so I have a few already from before. I am just surprised that they show up in rolls still. I just think it would shock me to see one because I cant ever remember running across one in general circulation. I rarely even see wheats any more in circulation and are seeing fewer and fewer in boxes these days. |

I never found one in circulation before starting to sort serious quantities. It is a volume thing. I find a lot more wheats now too.. but only because I am processing a heck of a lot more pennies than I did as a kid. I was a coin collector long before I started devoloping a small hoard too. |

The first time is always the best. I was so happy I created an account on this site just to tell people who would understand, and could barely sleep that night (didn't help I found my first and second back-to-back). It's amazing to me that 100+ years later you can still get these coins in circulation. It's all mathematics and odds, so with enough volume, you're bound to find one. |

Doing good on volume. No Indians yet....

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. my bank(HSBC) actually gave me some of those very heavy plastic bags for deposit. She said they take them and count them and deposit in your bank account.I told her I wouldn't even consider bringing them to her as shes the one who gets them for me.She said it was ok but I still wouldn't.I'll save a few bags and take them to another branch next time I drive by Derek |

They seem to come in groups. When I find one, I usually find more in the same batch. Then it can be months before I see another one. |

still none found. this year sometime ill have to buy the dreaded 1877 IHP to almost finish my set(also need 1909s, the most expensive ones, figures) my grandfather sold a complete IHP set last year, not sure what he got for it but hope it was worth it. if he told me about it id have 2 sets. im surprised you dont see more IHP's because they made quite a few and there are alot out there..just have to buy them i guess. i dont expect to find a large cent, half cent, 2,3,or 20 cent but the IHP being the same size as the lincoln and how many lincolns there are and how many people that would rather throw away the pennies instead of looking for key dates im just surprised you dont see more of them... |
