You know I'm thinking there might actually be a silver lining to his not getting the nomination and not getting elected President.
I imagine most readers here are expecting the economy to get worse, perhaps much worse, in the next few years. Just imagine if Ron Paul got elected President, tried to start implementing his programs, and shortly afterwards the economy collapses and the USA goes into depression.
Who would get the blame? Ron Paul.
What policies would get blamed? Ron Paul's free-market capitalism, limited government policies.
What would the public demand? More government, more regulation, more socialism.
So it is possible that were he elected President and was in office during very bad economic times then Ron Paul would be discredited and his pro-freedom agenda would be set back years and years because of it.
That would be far worse for our country than to have him just loose the Republican nomination.
At least he will still be in Congress and be a voice of truth and reason in the hard times to come.
Hopefully eventually enough people will wake up and realize that the majority of the rats in DC are selling them out and sinking our ship of State.
Then we can vote the dastards out of office and get some real honest liberty-minded folks in there who will do what they promise.
Hopefully. |

I think Ron knew as much when he ran but ran anyway to get his message into the national debate and it worked. He's in quite a good position to say "I told you so" now. |

William, I hope against hope, as you do, that we could vote the SOB's out, but the situation just seems to get worse everyday. There are MAYBE 5% in congress who actually put the best interest of the nation first. All of the rest are just in it for the money.
Kurt Vonnegut once wrote: "Things are bad, there going to get worse, and they are never going to get better". I have a hard time debating that thought as it pertains to our nations "leaders".
In the mean time, it's taken me 40 years to learn to look out for #1. |

Ever since July, I've thought of the '08 election as "who wants to be the next Herbert Hoover". |

I think you are correct.
Whoever is elected this year is going to face the worst of possible situations going into office.

I agree completely~! The new president in 08, whomever that happens to be, is almost doomed from the onset because of the economic conditions. Regardless of the last 8 years, whoever takes office will, as the figurehead, take a great deal of the blame for whatever befalls us. It will be a rough ride to be sure, and i just hope that all of the big-three (obama, mccain, clinton) understand that they may be saddled with the most difficult presidency since the Depression.
They should also be converting some of their campaign funds to Cu pennies :) (my attempt at lightening the post a bit) ;) |
