Oh please don't let this be true, I just placed an order for 50 boxes.
Knowing my luck they will all be new pennies, no copper to be found.
I'll have to weigh them before I crack them open, but the postal scales I have are only accurate to the nearest 0.1 kg. I guess that will be plenty accurate enough to distinguish between a pure zinc box (6.25 kg) and a mixed box (>7 kg).
Hey, the scales are portable so I can weigh the boxes in the parking lot of the bank. Any that are zinc I'll just turn around and re-deposit!
Boy are they going to hate me if they give me all zinc pennies! |

William.. it is OK to get new pennies right now. You can sell them for a profit. About the time I get some they will no longer have any value. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

I'm assuming that 2008 pennies are still new enough to be a novelty and that some collectors will pay a premium for them. Especially for entire rolls or boxes.
Some people like the shine, but us in the know like the substance :)
Give me dull copper over shiny zinc anytime!

Do not return boxes where you just ordered...that will be the last time they order for you....use them for trade at another bank. Don't mess up a good thing...amazing they ordered you 50 boxes without a serious charge. |

I always pluck out the MS-60 and above grade coins, no matter what they are. They have collector value. If you need, just sell them and reinvest it in your pennies hoard. U come out ahead. That's why I sell all my coppers. I can them buy more rools at the bank, not one of those "the end is nigh" guys. I keep all of this in one pool of cash so that I dont get stupid and out of hand and actually start pulling my other money out of more important places... |

Good suggestion, I would be ill-advised to walk right back into the same bank and say, "hey, these boxes don't weigh enough, are you trying to short me on my copper!"
I didn't think about using them for trade with other banks though, thanks. |

What?
At the start of the year there is flurry as collectors try and get the new uncirculated coins. I think alot of it is because of the way the mint distribution works. Some people only get new Denver pennies and others only see new Philidelphia Pennies. So there is a big coin swap as people sell them to each other. Later on this flurry will die down.
The bottom line is if you are lucky enough to get a solid box of new pennies early enough in the year, you can sell them on E-BAY and make some cash. |
