Wondering what the going rate in your area is for Carbide. By carbide, I mean the tungsten carbide inserts used in machine tool cutting bits that wear out and are discarded. They are swept up and tossed in the trash on some of the jobs I've been on. I was under the impression that the scrap value is sort of high and would like to get some input on expected prices. Opinions appreciated. Thanks
Ok, here's the exact stuff I'm refering to. Looks like over $7.00 a pound so far with shipping charges. This metal is very dense and seems almost as heavy as lead so it doesn't take much to make a pound.

Do you have a local buyer? If so, and you can get the carbide regularly, then great. The eBay route could be a fall back. I guess the eBay fees don't matter if all the money is profit anyway....

There are a bunch of online buyers who are quoting wide ranges of prices. Between $5 and $7 a pound for small quantity. 5 lbs of this metal can fit in your cupped hands...it's that heavy so it doesn't take much to get a pound. Do a google under SCRAP CARBIDE and don't take the first offer.
Any suggestions on the best way to remove tips on saw blades
Maybe put saw blade in a vice and bend/break off the tips? Never done it though. Careful....hehe

I think the teeth would be brazed on so heat them up with a torch and you should melt the braze off at a relatively low temperature. They should come right off. If you break them, the scrap dealers will lower the price big time if steel is attached.
