The Ryedale machine is the best to get. It's only competition is a Reis machine from Germany and a De La Rue Mach 6 with a special package. Both of those machines cost several thousand dollars. The Ryedale is specifically designed to sort pennies and is priced a lot more reasonably. It can sort at a rate of 18,000 coins per hour, though some users have achieved even higher speeds. You have to be pretty fast at opening rolls to keep up with a Ryedale. Another consideration is that the maker of the Ryedale machine is one of us.

Another thing.. Ryedale has fantastic customer service! You would never get any help from those big companies if you had a question.. they would probably want to charge you a hefty hourly rate in consulting fees. Those big companies could certainly take lessons in customer service from Ryedale.

I believe the difference between the models Ryedale is selling is mostly a matter of sheet metal, stainless steel chutes and counters. I own the original Coin Artist with all the bells and whistles and I love it! The Coin Apprentice does not have the fancy red box, the stainless steel chutes or as many counters, but it performs the same function and is a little easier on the budget. Ryedale specifically came out with that model to provide a great machine at a more budget friendly price so more sorters could be happy Ryedale owners.

Send Ryedale a PM.. he is a really friendly guy and will be happy to explain the differences to you.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I agree with HCBT!
It helps that Andy is a coin collector/ hoarder also not just a company building a machine for profit! He does care that it works great (and it always has) and is always available when I have a stupid question or two.

I have the apprentice model and I understand it is a little louder as it doesnt have the housing around it and only has a total counter instead of a copper & zink counter (not a big deal to me)also I dont have the speed control as all I intend to use it for is copper/Zink penny sorting not nickels.

In general I have the most stripped down model Ryedale makes not including the hand feed model and I have 957,000 (not much compared to the quantity of HCBT) pennies ran through it 100% trouble free! (accept for the occcational jamb due to a plastic penny)

The way I understand ryedales machine is that in general they are the same feed and sorting mechanics only with differant opptions available for differing applications. so, I think it is up to you and what you want to do with the machine that decides the right machine.

I know you will love any of them!

I have the $379 apprentice model. It is great and easy to move around. If it jamms up the mechanisum is easy to get to. As mentioned earlier, plastic pennys don't like the slide very well. Neither did the early 1800's 1/8 th Mexican Real that got stuck. It is slightly larger than a cent and the same color. Never would have spotted it without the jam up. People do mention jams but it only takes 15 sec to clear and they don't happen very often. This is a hands on machine. You can't just fill the hopper and leave the room. I also run my counter/bagger at the same time. When you have a Ryedale you go through a lot of coin.

Buy Them Both!!!

It is up to you to decide on the proper one.... I will offer my very bias oppinion.

If you can swing the extra pennies (only about 18,000 Zinkers more and you are going to have alot of them soon anyways...lol)
get the apprentice.... the way I rationalized it was that if I am going to hand sort then I will hand sort... but the advantage to using a machine is to create SUPER SPEED! with that freed up time you can do other hobbiies or sort more pennies than you ever thought was possible.

my other reason was that at some point I will achieve my goals (or just run out of room) and possibly sell the rydale and I think there is a bigger market for buyers of a used auto feed machine.... But as I said I am bias as this is the machine I own.

The whole point is to maximise the amount of copper you can get b4 they are gone.... and the auto feed gets you there sooner.

Maybe andy can share what model sells the most?

PP

When you buy a car do you get a basic model or one with a lot of options. The Coin Artist looks cooler and is a slightly quieter ride, but the Apprentice will get you there just as fast. Go ahead and buy the Apprentice for now. Andy offers an upgrade package if you decide you want to pimp your Ryedale later.

I have the top of the line model with all the bells and whistles. The only thing I have been able to do to pimp mine so far is to add 4 hopper extensions. Any suggestions on how I can further pimp my Ryedale?
