I put out the word at work that I would pay $1.65/lb for their "penny jar". Got one taker right away who brought in her coins when she came back from lunch. She had about half of them wrapped and was glad to be rid of them.
5.72 lb cost me 9.50, (rounded up from $9.48, didn't want to give her zincs, she's a real nice lady).
976 cents 216 Cu including 3 wheats, 1 Can., 1 Bermuda 758 Zn
22.1% Cu.
Here's the kicker. Sit down y'all, . When I dump the zincs, the coppers will have cost me .88 cents each!
She got a better deal than she would from Coinstar, I got my copper fix, everyone's happy!
Granted, the volume will be limited, but I've got another co-worker bringing in "alot" of pennies tomorrow. And a third from a branch office who says she's got 1/4 of a 5 gallon carboy full of coin she'd like to sell.
Gotta tell you guys, you gave me the nerve to put out the email saying I wanted to buy pennies. Got a lot of strange looks..."Why would you want to buy pennies?" After reading the post here about buying pennies at the bank, I've reached the point where I don't care what they think.
Hmmm....If I can get some big hoards, that Ryedale might not seem so expensive....
