Gas has been underpriced now for a while compared to crude and other things that are inflating. If I had to guess, I would say that it is being held down by the government to try and keep consumer confidence from completely collapsing. Anyhow I don't expect the "cheap" gas to last so enjoy it while you can. To bad there is not a good way to hoard it...

| I would like to see a gas company offer gas at a lock in price much like futures contracts work. |

I read an article a while back where some gas station chain (in the Chicago area I think) were offering to sell people gas in advance. They gas station was using the money paid in advance to invest it in futures. So a commuter could buy a year's worth of gas at today's prices. I was hoping the idea would catch on, but I have not heard anymore about it...so I guess that it didn't. |

| With light sweet crude (low sulphur content and easily refined) nailing $103/bbl today before backing off slightly, I was shocked to see the pump price of gasoline actually DROP here in Wisconsin back to $2.99/gal at some stations. Makes no sense. We have the gas with the 10% Ethanol (also makes no sense), but I'd gladly pay in advance for a couple hundred gallons. The USPS has their "Forever Stamps." Why not have Mobil, Chevron, Shell and the other majors have their "Forever Gallon" promotions? Might help to knock back much of the negative public sentiment about their record profits. |
Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply. |

| It takes a few months before changes in crude barrel prices translate into gasoline price changes at the pump. |

I saw a TV report (20/20 maybe) when gas was at a "steep" 2.30ish after hurricane katrina. Some gas station, maybe west of the Mississippi, had done that same thing. seems to be a really cool concept seeing as the people interviewed had purchased gas at less than half of the current price. |
