Poll Question:
how long have you been hoarding these two base metals, out of our coinage, North Americans, and world citizens are all welcomed to join this poll
if you have been hoarding even before the price of Cu, and Ni have taken off, good for you, you are ahead of at least me
i have only started to hoard no earlier than the beginning of 2006

I think I already told this story, but back in the late 70s I hoarded over $750 dollars in pennies. But my younger brother found my hoard and started to spend them. So I brought what was left back to the bank. I knew even then that copper would rise to the point that a penny would be worth more than its face value. I did not have the internet then and I had no idea just how long it would take or what price copper would have to reach to make it happen.
But as you know, I'm a nickel guy now and I keep close tabs on my brother.

I actually collected old nickels for a couple of years unaware of the NI content, but just because I like old George Head coins because they represent a time when our head of state wasn't a mad old woman. I've only bean hoarding them for their NI content for about 6 months. Before then, I collected silver coins as a way to invest in the silver market for about 2 years.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

I am in the less than 2 year bracket. I jumped in with both feet and I am headed out now to see how many bags I can wrestle away from the banks.

I started sorting pennies almost exactly a month ago. Filled up my first bank box with copper last night.

I've been at it since the end of 2007 or the beginning of 2008. I've only recently been buying the boxes and large quantities of rolls.

I used to collect coins but they were mainly mint coins and wheat's. I only got into hoarding when I stumbled upon this board and got to reading. I know curse that day, since then my hands twitch when some gets change in the convenience store and walk around wheeling my head around looking for coins on the ground kind of like a chicken looking for a worm. Coins even fill my thoughts when I try and sleep. D@mn you stupid realcent. Haha just kidding I have love every minute, cant say the same for my wife though.

I actually started saving Cu pennies in 1996 when my daughter was born. I filled a 5 gallon glass water jug in 7 years just from the change we get shopping. I never spend coins and always try to get change in return when shopping.

I started hoarding when Obama became president-elect. I date my $25 boxes of copper when complete. First one says "Cu 1/31/09".
