Courtesy of the Mogambo Guru

..."Then I got this in the email, which has been around a long time, but the message is the same even today, only with different names:

"If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago,
it would now be worth $49.00.
With Enron, you would have $16.50 left of the original $1000.
With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
If you had purchased $1000.00 of Delta Air Lines stock
you would have $49.00 left.
If you had purchased United Airlines, you would have nothing left.

But, if you had purchased $1000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling refund, you would have $214.00.
Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. This is called the 401-Keg Plan.""

Now there is an investment plan all guys can relate to.

(Theoretical question, which would be better, buy $1000 worth of beer in cans and recycle said cans, or buy $1000 worth of kegs and recycle said kegs? Do any beer distributorships refill empty kegs?)

You don't buy beer.. you rent it.

On the cans versus keg question I am not sure.. it used to be that kegs were obviously your better purchase, but I do know the beer distributers got all bothered around here because they were never getting their kegs back. Seems they were worth more for their aluminum content at the scrapyard than the deposit. So naturally folks were scrapping the kegs. It was nice of them to help fund your beer budget that way. I believe the deposits have now been raised.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

This has to be one of the best posts I have seen in a long time.

If somehow we can keep inflation from eating away from our fiat dedicated to BEER and continue to get increases in the price of aluminum, we can all drink beer for free if we save our cans for a couple years before turning them in... But I even like your Plan better as we can even make a profit for our EFFORTS.

I have to bring this up to the wife, who never touches alcohol, to let her know what my efforts in this area are really all about.

If your wife doesn't like beer, how about canned soda?

Now here is a really big flaw in this theory. Not all beers cost the same. In fact some beers would hardly get you enough Aluminum cans to make up for the gas to take it to a recycler. Then again, some beers are so cheap that if you drank $1,000 worth, your insides would be mostly mush and the resulting doctor bills would not be even dented with the Aluminum can turn ins. To make things worse you simple said if you boght $1000 worth of beer. Now if you sent someone for that beer they may well have purchased it in a large barrell or bottles. So now what?
