The most disturbing part about this are the comments left at the end. People just don't seem to understand that it isn't the coins themselves that are the problem but the Fed over printing worthless fiat money; that is the root cause of the problem. There is nothing "wrong" with the penny!
If anything we need to go back to a hard currency, money backed up by something and/or made of something of real value. A great start would be to make the coins out of better metals instead of trying to eliminate and/or continue to debase them.
The level of ignorance out there regarding the scam that is fiat money and the Fed is just amazing and frightening. The fools who stated that they would like to see all electronic money are downright retarded! Yeah, no private transactions, no actual/real substance behind our money, big brother spying on every transaction and having the ability to wipe out your financial existence, no economic activity possible when the electricity goes out, "little brother" (groups/individuals) being able to spy on and mess with your assets, identity thief like you wouldn't believe, etc.... "Gee THAT sounds like a good idea"  .
At least with the paper money you can still wipe your a*s with it, can't even do THAT with 0's and 1's!

"its the new economy, market share, not profits, are what really matter" dullards.
Metal Maniiac hit the nail on the head with all the reasons to keep the penny but dump the kill-the-penny crowd. |

Americans aren't known for their intelligence and Andrew Jackson warned that once the banks control the currency our children will be without a home on the streets.
You are living through the last currency change like our forefathers did the silver coin pullout. That is of course till the nickel or zinc goes big. |
