Hello Everyone!!

Just discovered your little village here and thought I would join and say hello! I am a frequent observer in many places but a frequent poster in none, so if I am doing something wrong when I communicate here please let me know! I have been a silver hoarder for about 15 years (shhh....quietly...) and a copper penny realist for about half that long and had no idea there were so many other "weirdos" out here!

Hey Hoard...what is the HoardCode? I am guessing that the first part means male 49, not sure on 15USCA, US1Cu660100 is how many US copper cents you have, US1Zi150000 is how many zinc pennies you have, US5Ni14000 is how many US nickels you have, and CA5NI1150 is how many Canadian nickels you have...I am close?

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

SilverSlugger, welcome....see you are not alone. You will see you are in good company here.
CoinHunter53562, you are correct about the HoardCode translation.

CoinHunter.. you have it exactly right. 15USCA is for the number of years you have been hoarding, what country you are in and the state or province. So mine would be 15 years of hoarding, in the United States, and in the state of California. It is sort of like a current score card. Mine isn't complete.. I still need to add silver, gold, platinum and palladium. I also need to add Canadian pennies, Australian pennies (some of my favorites) and British 2 pence pieces. I was thinking I should also add a section for unsorted pennies since I seem to have a few boxes of those laying around here and there.

There is an old thread on hoardcodes somewhere on here that tells you how to make one.. or you can probably get the general idea from mine. Here is a link to the thread:

Thank you for the welcome! As soon as I read a few posts I thought that I had to join to see what makes you people tick...maybe find out why I'm so crazy. And I am in central PA, for the record, if anyone else is in my neck of the Northeast...

Welcome Silver Slugger. Sometimes I think that my hearing is beginning to be affected by decades of loud music, but then I hear the distinctive ring of a silver coin or piece from miles away. Love that sound. Absolutely a favorite.

Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply.

Welcome Slugger: They key epiphany here is: YOU'RE NOT CRAZY! You have found your way to a den of sanity in a crazy world. These few sane individuals inhabit a civilization that has itself gone crazy, such that those who exhibit rational thought appear crazy to the masses deluded by cultural norms. There is nothing crazy about trying to preserve a bit of your hard earned wealth in the form of hard physical commodities. There IS something crazy when people accept the lie that little numbers on a slip of paper actually represent money! Fear not, you're in good company!

Art and tmaring, thank you both. I have often said to myself, sometimes out loud "Doesn't anyone see that we should be stashing away SOME of this stuff?" And not just in plastic holders to make nice litle sets to show off on the bookshelf, I mean shouldnt every rational, reasonably educated individual who has read anything about history at any point in their life want a pile of this "junk" in a can in the basement? I DO! So I just add to the pile...and so far, it has'nt hurt me or my family one bit. We still eat, turn the water on and off, and watch tv just like everyone else...but in the back of my mind every time I add more coins to the pile, I just smile because I am truly convinced that I will be one step up on everyone else at some point down the road for having done this..
