I have six gross of cheap give-away flashlights comming my way if I want them, otherwise they'll go in the dumpster. They each have a small clip on them that I believe is some type of pot metal. Dose anybody know if pot metal is recycled?
The clips are not magnetic and have a brassy look to them, but I doubt there is any copper in them.

| In my opinion, pot metal is only recycled in China to make other pot metal. Oh well. |
Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply. |

| Could you sell them at a flea market or church sale, 25¢ each or give them away? It seems a shame to just throw away something that could be useful to someone, even if it is only for kids to play with or experiment with. |

| If you have a Salvation Army, Good Will, etc type of place near you, take them there and get a receipt for them. You now have a tax deductable statement and you can assign your idea of value to them. |

Non-magnetic "pot metal" is usually zinc. Zinc is easy to melt, makes non-toxic fishing weights, and is used by precious metal salvagers to displace dissolved metals from an acidified solution.
Test with muriatic acid (HCL)or just plain vinegar. It will bubble vigorously if it is zinc.
Sell on E-Bay. |
