I just received another $25 of nothing but zinc customer wrapped rolls (CRW) from my sourcing credit union. The name on the rolls is T. Knapp. If you are on this forum, let's talk....
Last week I got a $25 Brinks box, which had CRW in it, but no name on the rolls or box. It was also nothing but zinc.
I have not had a problem at all before this, and this location has been my only needed source for pennies, since it's very convenient for me. They don't mind ordering me Brinks rolls when I need them, since I also take all their CRW. I don't get too much coin on a weekly basis, and I don't want to double my searching time becasue this person has decided to dump here.
My credit union is in NW Indy.

It happened to me today too. I used to feel bad when I would read about other members getting a dud box and glad it had never happened to me. But this morning I picked up 2 boxes from one of my banks and both of them were solid zinc!
The good thing is your competition is hand rolling them, so how much can he really generate? The quick way to check them when you pick them up is to weigh the box or the rolls. This will save you a lot of sorting time.
In the case of the 2 boxes I picked up this morning, they were machine rolled. Fortunately I recognized the paper as being from my own machine. Not many sorters machine roll their zincs. Apparently these 2 boxes have been sitting in their vault since I deposited them a couple of weeks ago.. LOL. I fixed it though.. I just walked next door and deposited them at a bank that hardly ever gives me pennies anymore. So now I know the first bank doesn't have any more of my pennies to give back to me. I will pick up a couple of fresh boxes from them tomorrow or Saturday. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Just take the box to another bank and trade with them...I've done this dozens of times in Canada...and a few times here in Mich. Banks are everywhere....it is easy to trade dud boxes....on a limited basis, this makes it interesting to know there is another guy like me out there.....
Better hoard a lot now...just think what it will be like when every town has 4 or 5 guys doing this. |

| That is so true: hoard while there are only few in the game. Think about if the penny is discontinued or defaced; everybody and their cousin will be sorting! |

| That must be frustrating! Luckily my primary bank is now ordering me as many pennies as I can afford on a bi-weekly basis. Let me tell you, I get some funny looks walking out of the bank and loading my trunk! One old guy said, "Nobody would bother robbing you." Anyway, my Brinks boxes are always at 25-30% Copper with tons of wheats and Canadians, so I obviously don't have any competition in my area yet. Also, I just found a new free zinc dumping source (see post). |

I just got 3-4 really light Brink's boxes. One of them I figured by weight has at best 11 copper pennies in it. I thought maybe it was full of new 2008s, but nope just junky old zincs. Most likely one of my own dumps coming back to haunt me... |

This has not yet happened to me....but I'm getting nearly 100% customer dump coins at Credit Unions....these are from general circulation.
All my zinc returns to the Detroit "Fed" (Comerica Bank)...where it is blended with other pennies.
I think you guys are starting to swim in your own zinc pooh.....this is not a good thing....a sign of problems to come....be thankful you got in early....
That is why I'm pedal to the medal right now...spending every spare cent on copper hoard.
Good clean penny pooulations will not last. |

| I am going to suggest to my credit union that if they want me to take the CWR, then they should get customer last names on the rolls. That will save me time sorting the junk zinc customer rolls. I picked up $90 of CWR this week at the branch. None of the rolls are 100% zinc. That will also encourage full customer rolls. I have had a problem with a few particular customer names on rolls, where they short consistently 2-5 cents per roll. |

I put on a post on earlier that I have had a total now of four sealed $25 brinks boxes with the plastic rolled coins that were all zinc. I just started collecting the copper and feel like I joined the party late. I have to believe the Fed is pulling the copper out now and melting the coins down. This is illegal for us to do but obviously they can do it all day long. Oh well, such is life!

You might just have hit a bad luck streak...keep in mind, there may be a guy like me in your Federal Reserve District that sorts and dumps a lot of zinc....in the past 9 months I've dumped over 20,000 lbs of zinc back into the system....it is very possible the FED was just wrapping (or contracting a service to wrap...) a bunch of zinc that got returned. Every week they are hauling in 500 lbs of my zinc...
Stick with it...you will have better luck.
But, this is a lesson to hoard early, often and heavy....it will not last.... |

| As we all know there is no law against sorting and hoarding pennies. Why shouldn't the Federal Reserve, metal salvage dealers, and even other low volume hoarders all get in on the action? There are a lot of unsorted pennies out there but we are bound to get into each other way every so often. |

I fully agree. That is why I am pedal to the "metal" right now too.
Picked up 25 boxes of Brinks wrap today. I will let you guys know if I notice any decrease in my normal copper percentage. |
