Is silver a good investment opportunity or a relic of the past? In this day and age of Electronic Transfer Funds and Comex certificates the ideal of holding a tangible investment seems somewhat old school. But, as society continues to push forward it can’t help but follow the circle of life. Ever evolving and revolving in a process of recycling. Out with the old in with the new, then slowly after time the old concepts are picked back up dusted off and the initial utilization of such a tool is revitalized.
Precious metals have been the backbone of commerce and wealth since the dawn of time. Originally used in adornment these unique gifts to the earth have qualities to this day yet undiscovered. Silver as an industrial metal has found its way into almost every electrical device manufactured, most notably the RFID chip, which will eventually be embedded in everything from clothing to newspapers. On a side note, interestingly, in such small quantities that the cost to purchase and utilize in a single product barely affects the end price to the consumer. Which means a little bit of silver goes a long way.
Silver has found its way into the health community as anti-bacterial agent. Bandages that promote healing are making their way to market as we speak. Hospitals, schools and cafeterias can all benefit from the sterile environment of silver. The same goes with the clothing industry, seriously, clothing has been designed to utilize silver to keep bacteria growth to a minimum. The solar industry, which China is doubling every year this decade, utilizes a fraction of silver in every single panel made. This alone tells you the future potential of silver as the world struggles to find suitable power arrangement other than fossil fuel.
Silver over the last hundred years has been specifically utilized in electronics and for the largest part photography. As times are changing and photography is now digital, those used up products, film, radios and televisions have been buried within the landfills of America. It is said that 90% of silver ever mined has been used and placed into these humble graves. While 99% of all gold every mined has been hoarded in jewelry and coin.
When considering the fate of silver and what role you may be interested, make sure to use due diligence and investigate any claims you may come across. In the past I have used Silver News Today for market indicators and information

Great post. How much is silver's price based on its industrial demand and how much on it's "safe haven" or investor demand? Currently, I guess that about one third of silver's current price is based on safe-haven or speculation demand. All the commodities have a certain about of that. Gold has much more safe-haven or speculation demand built into its price than silver. Copper less than silver, but it is still there. Because of it we will continue to see wide swings in the price of silver. Currently those swings are on the up side of the chart.

Thanks Ardent, Classic realcent is a wonderful place to learn from people of like minds. A brewing arrangement for the common good. It is a asset to have such a resource such as this available.
I think the investor growth in silver places a larger role than that of gold. As the market continues to take this silver and store it. It will have no choice but to rise in value. |
