Why oh why do some stupid mothergrubbers have to mark silver with fingernail polish??? I have boxes of stuff (real junk) that I plan on selling to APMEX someday when the price is right (maybe $30-35) so, just for fun, I decided today to sift thru them and see if any of it is salvageable. Why not keep it and await even better returns if it can be cleaned up? This is what I found and plan on saving (with a bit of elbow grease and solvent)
3 Walkers
2 Franklins
7 Kennedys
63 Washington quarters
7 Mercs
37 Rosies

I would love to find the idiots who used to do this to silver coins. It's just as bad, if not worse, than graffiti on boulders and redwood trees

Hoard now and hold on!

That is really weird. is anything written in the polish or is it just slopped on the coins? Yea, I have seen some brilliant art on abandoned buildings and such, but when on trees and natural objects it is just defiling.

Back in the old days, you do remember the old days don't you beau?

Bar owners would paint the coins they would use, in-house, to pay for juke-box, pool table etc.

It was a simple accounting gimmick. That's why we find coins painted, usually red.

That's the problem with old age... you don't remember stuff anymore! But, yeah... I vaguely recall something like that. Anyway, these were all various shades of pink, not red. Did they have gay bars back then, Eric? You do remember, right?

I actually am a lesbian in a man's body.

One of my favorite bars in the day was called Ray's.

I'm actually wondering where you got the pink coins?

I'm trying to figure that out too! I'm stumped. Been buying silver in various sized lots since 2003... guess it just adds up. Grrrh!

I have only a war nick that has been painted red on one side.

I didn't know that painted coins were so prevalent.

Accept for the this garbage:

A few of the ones I've picked up within multiple lots of five are actually not painted, but they look like they are. Some of them have an extremely thin plastic cover that is colored, but will peel off.

I just picked up a colored SAE myself, it was $2 cheaper than the non colored ones I get at the flea market. He had one more so I might pick it up when I get paid if he still has it.

Are you throwing that out?
