I asked awhile back, and got a few responses. I have a family member that has a few hundred pounds of Pure Tin most of it in ingot form. Each ingot weighs roughly 14 pounds or so, and is roughly 9 inches by 5 inches by an inch and a half. On the top it reads PURE-TIN. What does pure tin usually go for a pound? He wants to sell it, and i can fit 4 nicely in a medium flat rate box(55-60 lbs) for shipping.
I will get pictures up here today.
Thanks!

I won't vouch for the accuracy, I just found the site.

If he want to sell it though you let us know and we can move this to the market place. |

There's an outfit called RotoMetals, that sells it for $13.99 a lb. Of course that's a retail price. |
Are you throwing that out? |

Ardent .....checked out the link.
Wow when did lead get so darn expensive? not trying to hijack the thread here. just curious?
Pennyman, I would think it would be a tough sale @ anything above $9/lb. Now @ $5 or less per pound you might get some looks.
Don't take these comments the wrong way... -Thing is, I think of it as kinda of a "pig in a poke" deal. Sure it's marked pure tin, but I have a nice CZ ring marked 14k that has failed my acid test 3 times. I have personally seen a 100 ounce bar cut in half with 3 tubs of lead in drill out spaces occupying the center like a tootsie roll in a tootsie pop. (minus the joy of tootsie of course) -Who made these things....someone/some company needs to be accountable for the product. This is why people love ASE’s, Pennies, Engelhard, Market Harmony, ect -If you could get some more info that strengthened the claim of solid tin, these puppies would go well and quick very close to spot.

Thank you for the information, Sorry to hear about that 100 oz bar...
Is there any way to test that they are solid tin? Is there a place you can send a piece out to? Thanks! |

Market Harmony or some other member may know a guy.
Run a sample through Mass spectrometry......check with your local Chem department at the University.
Also pure tin melts at around 450 deg F. Try to melt some with a controlled heat source you can measure temp on.
Just a few ideas that come to mind.

No worries about melting pure tin its fumes are pretty inert/non-toxic to tissues.
However, watch out for the tin salts used to make plating on cans and such. That stuff will make your toenails grow hair.
