I would just pull the pre-40's "S" mint marks and BU's, I don't understand why you would want to do it by every year? |

pre-40 and post-40 is a good cut-off if you want to keep it simple. |

If you care the S mints may carry a slight premium. And there are some error years within the 1940-1958's. But aside from looking for them 1940-58 are the common wheat years. |
Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

I usually sort by date and mm because I do check for varieties that I'm interested in. I especially check all my 46-S's for the inverted S, and it has paid off for me. Here's the link on the 46-s inverted if your not familiar. You must be logged in to see this link. This is my inverted at this wexler site. |

From what I understand but not totally positive, all the inverted S's have a small die gouge of some sort right next to the ball on the bottom. Its pretty easy to see if the coin is in good shape. As of a couple of months ago, the one that I have was the earliest reported die state. Many more have been found since, so that perfect early die state is out there some where. |

Abe, thanks for the link and the info. I have a 1944 S that I found just a couple of days ago that had me staring and staring at the mint mark for the longest time thinking it was upside down, but then I thought what do I know it can't be. I have now set it aside and will take it to the next coin show I get to go to and have someone look at it that is more knowledgeable than I am.
Thanks again for the valuable information. Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. |

If you want to take the time, fasteddy, there are some well known errors during the wheat years that do carry a premium. It might be worth your time to go through them rather than just tossing them aside into pre-40/post-40 and S mintmark piles.

As far as I know, the only inverted S in the lincoln series is the 1946. This is a relatively new discovery, so there may be more to be discovered. Good luck with your 44-S. |
